Supreme Court Justices Russell Nigro (D) and Sandra Schultz Newman (R), both of Philadelphia, are up for a 10-year retention election on Nov. 8. The justices were among those who OK’d the large pay raise -- clearly barred by any layman’s reading of the state constitution -- the state legislature voted itself last summer. Of course, judges also got a pay raise.
Yes -- It is time to send a message.

It doesn't really matter about freepin' the poll (although it would be nice). What does matter is voting on Nov. 8 in the election that counts. If this pair is removed, it would send a huge, huge message.

I am registered to vote in PA right now, will be sure to send these idiots packing.
They are kind of hidden on a line of their own. They may very well not be on any campaign lit you are handed.

I plan on voting them out but I heard on the radio this morning in Harrisburg that bills have been presented to roll back the payraise.
I may not have heard correctly but In regard to the unvouchered expenses, the senate's bill already passed like 50-zip. On the house side there were 2 against. I understood it to mean just the unvouchered expenses. Today it sounds like the whole enchilada will be up for reversal. They mentioned a vote in about two weeks.
I'm still going to vote to whack'em for putting us through this.

Pa. Senate Approves Repeal of Pay Raise

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Responding to months of public uproar, Pennsylvania lawmakers on Wednesday voted to repeal a July law that gave big pay raises to lawmakers, judges and senior executive branch officials.
``I think the people were heard on this,'' said Republican Sen. John Rafferty. ``It was too much (money) in one shot, and that was heard loud and clear.''
The Senate voted unanimously to repeal the law Wednesday evening, and the House followed suit several hours later, approving the bill 196-2 with little debate. Since the House amended the measure, another vote by the Senate will be required.
The repeal's sponsor in the Senate, Democrat Sean Logan, said the action would ``restore some integrity'' that lawmakers lost in passing the bill in the middle of the night without debate or public notice.

The PA House and Senate passed two different versions, so nothing has changed. The House added a clause that could re-instate the pay raise. We need to vote them out!
What makes you think the replacements will be "true public servants"? There are many good conservatives now serving in the legislature and I would not like to see them replaced by a Democrat who would throw their vote to whatever Gov. Rendell wants. We might teach them a lesson by voting them out but at what price? As the saying goes, you don't cut off your nose to spite your face...
Finally, the voters of California got bone weary of their Court thumbing its noses at their laws concerning the worst of the state's murderers. There was a voter revolt, directed at the Court. Bird was defeated in her retention election, as were either one or two of her associated judges.
It will take some serious work, but in the few states which have election for judges it is VITAL that the voters get up on their hind legs and slap down judges who have contempt for the law itself. This is the same debate at the state level which is currently going on nationally, over the nomination of Judge Alito to the US Supreme Court.
Read the history of how California dumped Rose Bird, and apply that in Pennsylvania. Good hunting.

Both parties passed a bill that is clearly in violation of the State Constitution. I say get rid of the bums - all of them.
I understand everyones frustration and rage but, then, they better not bitch and complain when they find that those who relaced the "bums" are even worse. You will see many opportunists who will run against incumbents hoping to use the pay raise as a catapult into the legislature. We need to look at their platform and beliefs carefully before voting them in or else we will rue the day. Exchanging one bunch of scoundrals for another is not the answer.
I'm afraid this is gonna be a tough one to pull off. There are just too many Filthadelphia voters. But we will try.
