France struggles as unrest spreads
REUTERS NEWS AGENCY ^ | November 3, 2005 | Sophie Louet

Pressure mounted on French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin's government to move quickly to restore order as violence broke out in the suburbs of Paris for the seventh night running. The French government leader canceled a trip to Canada yesterday to tackle the spreading unrest in areas with large African and Muslim populations, and to quell a damaging dispute among his ministers over how to respond. Last night, youths went on a rampage in nine areas in poor suburbs ringing the French capital to the north and the east, setting on fire about 40 cars, two buses and trash cans, as well as causing damage to at least one school and a shopping center. Hundreds of police were deployed to control the disturbances, with some units diverted from a soccer match. One trade union representing policemen described the unrest as a "civil war" and called on Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy to impose a curfew in areas that have been affected by the violence to ensure that the violence did not spiral out of control.

I would LOVE to see Condi lecture Villepin about diplomacy - the same way that Villepin lectured Colin Powell at the UN.

Too sweet!!

However, with the USA staying clear of the French quagmire, Chirac should be surrendering soon and apologizing to the Muslim revolutionists for causing them to burn the property of innocent French citizens.

Ahhhh France... the first domino in the Muslim conquest of Europe... I got a feeling this is more than just a riot, folks. This may be the beginning of the Great War Against Western Civilization.

How long ya want to bet before the muzzies declare a French Intifada?

"Could the riots in Paris be connected to the recent banning of the headscarf in France? "

I think that was more of a symptom of an overall European problem than a problem in and of itself.

Europe has a long history of looking down their noses at other races/cultures/foreigners. The Germans have nearly always been that way; in fact they have a uniquely German phrase for anyone who is not of German decent: "das Auslanders"...

Looks like the charade of a peaceful united EU is about over...

I don't know how France stops this without coming down like a ton of bricks. Do they even have a ton of bricks in France? Maybe they need to ask NATO to intervene...

No No No! They need the U.N. to commission a study, then send it to a committee to come up with a strategic plan which will involve the U.S. sending troops that the U.N. can control

The rioting may be a cover for jihadists to compromise France's numerous nuclear site..

I agree. These "alternate realities" believed by large segments of our population (legal citizens and illegals as well) could lead to similar outcomes here.

Just wait for the coming recession/depression, and we will see our cities explode on an unimaginable scale.

"...it is hard to pick a side to cheer for."

I said basically the same thing the other day. As a matter of fact, I said I think "I'll root for the camel jockeys in this one" and one Freeper took me to the woodshed insinuating that I am a pro-Radical Muslim DUer.
But, the Radical Muslim extremists and France hate the U.S. equally IMHO.

"If it's happening in France, it can easily happen in other countries as well. This could be the start of something really nasty."

I'm up for it. Let's roll!

IMO this is not just a few "youths", something far more sinister may be behind this.

While working-out at lunch yesterday, CNN described the unrest as "immigrants" upset about unemployment and discrimination. Not one word about Muslims rioting -- what is CNN afraid of? having to admit that Bush is right?!?

French security is probably as full of holes as Swiss cheese. There is a great potential for disaster. I understand Denmark now as rioting adherents of TROP now.

I have Libs on another board I'm on, who yesterday were denying these were Muslims and/or denying Islam was involved, that this was just a poverty issue.

They are half right. It is a poverty issue---those caught up in the cult of Islam suffer from a poverty of the soul.

Yes, and there is also the fact that muslims also have the tendency to kill those who speak the truth about them.

I would say there are very few in the media that think the truth is worth their life.

On "Fox and Friends" today, they went several minutes into this story before noting that these were "Muslims," and even then, they labeled them "African Muslims" who were "disaffected" by the lack of "job opportunities" in France.

I come to your country known for safeguarding its language, and for Catholicism, wine, fashion and food, I insist on speaking my language, promoting Islam, wearing 7th century clothing, avoiding alcohol and declaring your food unfit, and now you won't provide opportunities for me, me, me. Hmmmmm...

I'm not one to say only Christians are going to Heaven. However, the Muslims migrate to Europe looking for jobs and welfare benefits, but without intending to assimilate into the host culture. Indeed, they hold the secular host culture in contempt and speak of making France Muslim. This is certainly entirely unacceptable.
