Investigate the CIA - It was the CIA's bizarre conduct that led inexorably to Ms. Plame's unveiling

In a surprise, closed-door debate, Senate Democrats demanded an investigation of pre-Iraq War intelligence. Here's an issue for them: Assess the validity of the claim that Valerie Plame's status was "covert," or even properly classified, given the wretched tradecraft by the Central Intelligence Agency throughout the entire episode. It was, after all, the CIA that requested the "leak" investigation, alleging that one of its agents had been outed in Bob Novak's July 14, 2003, column. Yet it was the CIA's bizarre conduct that led inexorably to Ms. Plame's unveiling.

When the Intelligence Identities Protection Act was being negotiated, Senate Select Committee Chairman Barry Goldwater was adamant: If the CIA desired a law making it illegal to expose one of its deep cover employees, then the agency must do a much better job of protecting their cover. That is why a criterion for any prosecution under the act is that the government was taking "affirmative measures" to conceal the protected person's relationship to the intelligence agency. Two decades later, the CIA, either purposely or with gross negligence, made a series of decisions that led to Ms. Plame becoming a household name.

• First: The CIA sent her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, to Niger on a sensitive mission regarding WMD. He was to determine whether Iraq had attempted to purchase yellowcake, an essential ingredient for nonconventional weapons. However, it was Ms. Plame, not Mr. Wilson, who was the WMD expert. Moreover, Mr. Wilson had no intelligence background, was never a senior person in Niger when he was in the State Department, and was opposed to the administration's Iraq policy. The assignment was given, according to the Senate Intelligence Committee, at Ms. Plame's suggestion.

• Second: Mr. Wilson was not required to sign a confidentiality agreement...

" He seemed completely taken in by the spin that this was all about leaking Plame's name to punish Wilson, or, at least, that there were no other avenues for investigation. "

Wilson told Olbermann last night that he " had spoken to Fitzgerald twice " in his office.
The first meeting, at Fitzgerald's request was " early on in Fitzgerald's tenure."
Wilson laid out the details of his trip to Africa, who sent him and why.
Was this an informal chat or an official interview ?
Wonder if Wilson was still spreading the " Cheney sent me " lie ?
Olbermann didn't ask.
And if Wilson told Fitzgerald the phony story about Cheney ordering the trip- isn't that making a false statement ? Was mint tea brewed and sipped ?
Wilson said he spoke to Fitzgerald one more time -the same day that Judy Miller tesified, but, Wilson said that was just coincidence. His meeting had nothing to do with Miller.
It looks as if Wilson laid out the agenda and Fitzgerald followed it.
Isn't it mind boggling that Fitzgerald never put Wilson before the Grand Jury ?
Unless Wilson was a target, but, it doesn't sound that way.

If Libby goes to trial, you may get your wish.

The last thing the rats and Fitzy want is for Libby's lawyers to used discovery on all of Fitzy's media whore witnesses during Fitzy's Kangaroo Court posing as a grand jury.

If Wilson smokes, he may have lit both ends. Or he has gone to the favorite drug, the rats like to light up and puff on.

"I hope somebody (like the Intel Comm chairman) is listening and brings Wilson et al in for questioning."

If this happens, I hope that Zell Miller is invited in to testify and comment on Wilson's lies and spins.

Then Representative Peter King can summarize the real laws of the CIA for the Intel committee.

Since none of this deals with classified data or procedures, make it an open meeting. Maybe Rush could be invited in as a commentator.

If more Americans payed attention it wouldn't be a problem.

"If everything is really the fault of a politician, were are all the bright, honest, intelligent Americans who are ready to step in and replace them? Where are these people hiding? The truth is, we don't have people like that. Everyone's at the mall, scratching his ba!!s, and buying sneakers with lights in them. And complaining about the politicians." - George Carlin

IMO, Joe and Valerie Wilson were (and still are) agents of the CIA Wing of the Democrat Party.

I am wondering if Rep. King was targeted yesterday by the pipe bomb outside his office over his outspokeness on the matter that the CIA should be investigated.

That pipe bomb was probably some type of warning to King.

He has been brutal on Wilson, Plame, Plame's Boss and the liberals in the agency.

If Valerie used her CIA connections to leak something that would hurt President Bush's reelection, we would have a major crime.

think about it. A person who donates to Americans Coming Together could have single-handedly changed our country's policy on the war on terror. all because of politics. Major crime? I would call that treason.

I used to care so much about sports, it was all I ever wanted to talk about. Now politics has completely replaced that. I still watch some football, but it is hard for me to get upset if "my team" loses or whatever. Sports seems so unimportant anymore.
