Colorado man sues Home Depot after he was glued to toilet seat

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Hardware retailer Home Depot has found itself in a sticky situation, defending a lawsuit filed by a man who said the chain's Louisville, Colo., store ignored his cries for help after he fell victim to a prank - and was glued to a toilet seat.

Bob Dougherty, 57, of Nederland, Colo., said he became stuck to a bathroom toilet seat on which somebody had smeared glue on Oct. 30, 2003 and felt "tremendous panic" when he realized he was stuck.

"They left me there, going through all that stress," Dougherty told the (Boulder) Daily Camera newspaper.

"They just let me rot."

His lawsuit, filed Friday said Dougherty was recovering from heart bypass surgery at the time and thought he was having a heart attack. A store employee who heard him calling for help informed the head clerk via radio but the head clerk "believed it to be a hoax," the lawsuit said.

Home Depot spokeswoman Kathryn Gallagher said she could not comment on pending litigation.

The lawsuit said after about 15 minutes, store officials called for an ambulance. Paramedics unbolted the toilet seat and while wheeling a "frightened and humiliated" Dougherty out of the store, he passed out.

The lawsuit said the toilet seat separated from his skin, leaving abrasions.

"This is not Home Depot's fault," he said.

"But I am blaming them for letting me hang in there and just ignoring me."

So, was this in the public toilet, or was this a toilet seat on display? Not enough information here!

Sometimes there is something worse than being stuck on a toilet seat. It is being stuck on stupid.

...it STILL sticks instantly to skin...

And it sticks instantly to toilet paper too, which he should have used to wipe the seat. It's a public restroom for cryin' out loud.

He either did this himself to cover some of his medical expenses or he learned something he should have known for 50+ years now.

Maybe.

It happened in Boulder, after all.

Would you call him a chump if it was your father?

If he pulled some idiotic stunt like suing Home Depot? You better believe it! I am sorry and feel sympathy for the fact that he got stuck to the seat. His consequent money grubbing lawsuit immediately dissolved all that sympathy.

Right on. I was there on Monday and I actually had to wait in line for the self-service checkout line because they didn't have enough personnel on hand to handle the number of customers who wanted to buy their merchandise. Unbelievable.

Oh, the horror!

You plan to sue, don't you?

"Watch that guy in the glue isle, he just put something in his pocket,

"Yeah, I see him, he just headed into the men's room.

Are you saying you don't wipe the seat before you sit in a public restroom?

Are you saying you actually sit on the seat in a public restroom?

If having one's butt glued to a toilet seat isn’t stressful enough, consider the way Home Depot treated Dougherty. They acted as if he didn't matter. They didn't call the hospital to check on him. They didn't apologize that he suffered as a guest at their store. They didn't offer to help with deductibles or the cost of Dougherty's ambulance ride. They didn't send a get-well card or a $10 gift certificate. Any of the above would represent civilized, kind, dignified behaviors that haven't been in vogue since the '80s. "If someone trips on my sidewalk, even if I'm not at fault, I'm out there helping," Dougherty says. "I make sure the person is OK. These people wouldn't even send in help."

IMO, this guys most serious disease is a massive case of entitlement.

Well the "man" is suing for 3 million...

And guess what.

This isn't the first time he's claimed he was glued to a toilet seat.

If true, I hope he does time.

The news today is he's suing for 3 million.

And...

Someone else has come forward and is saying this isn't the first time this guy has claimed he was glued to a toilet seat.

Oops...

A little jail time in his future?

"They just let me rot."

I didn't know you could rot in 15 minutes.

Customer service is non existent and the place is always a mess.

Must depend on the manager. I've never experienced that at any Home Depot I've gone to.

You'd think he'd be creative enough to come up with a new scheme now and then.
