Challenges to Bush's Iraq Policy Gain Dramatic Momentum

WASHINGTON -- For months, the politics of the Iraq war have been frozen in place, with stalwart Republicans defending President Bush's policy and most Democrats shunning a direct challenge.

Now, the ice has begun to crack.

In the face of solidifying public opposition to the war, a mounting U.S. body count and a renewed focus on the faulty intelligence used to justify the war, Democratic lawmakers and candidates have sharpened their critique of the administration's policy and, in some cases, urged a withdrawal of U.S. troops.

"The mood has really shifted," said Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wis.), who in August became the chamber's first member to call for a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq. "We are in a whole different period."

Even before the Senate showdown, challenges to administration policy were multiplying in recent weeks: Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) for the first time called for new ways to accelerate troop withdrawals.

Several Democratic congressional candidates began to urge Bush to set a timeline for ending U.S. involvement in the war. And more Republicans in competitive races — including a senior Senate leader — pointedly questioned the administration's rosy assessment of the war's prospects.

I call for immediate withdrawal of Communist Rats from America! By force if necessary, but preferably by de-funding.

The war has been a great success. True, we will need to pull our troops out eventually but when it is safe to do so. I think what they are trying to do is call for troop withdrawl and then when Bush agrees to withdraw, based on his own timetable, they will say they pressed him into it.

The dems don't have anything, no ideas, no vision, no nothing, just complaints with no alternatives.

Every time you read in the media that a movement is "building momentum" or "picking up steam," you know it's toast.

What momentum? only inside Democratic party and its wings--includes moveon, MSM. If any, it's momentum that the moveon crowd gains momentum in hijacking the Democratic party.

The movement is so strong they managed a few hundred to protest in Seattle. Yep, this movement in gaining momentum alright.

Yours is the likely strategy.

They are aware the Constitution has passed. They are aware another vote in December for a Government will be taken. They are aware when that occurs the day of withdrawing at least some of our forces is closer.

They are also being hit by their lunatic base for supporting the war to begin with.

They want to score points by claiming they brought about withdrawal, even though competitive money could be placed that SUCCESS predictably soon on horizon indicates it will occur with or without their vocal words.

What momentum?

Exactly. The only momentum that is happening is coming out of their *sses, because they don't have a platform, they don't have the governorships, they don't have congress, they don't have the presidency, they will soon not have the courts. All they have is a has-been circa 1979 president who is overdue on his meds, a circa 2000 president who is overdue on his whores, and a MSM who are overdue on truth. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Democrats want to run just as there's a glimmer of hope in Iraq. If we quit now we might as well issue an invitation to the thugs of the world to kick our ass because they'll think we like it that way.

The Rats are using another play out of the Arafat/Mazen-Abbas playbook. Or is it the other way around?
