I think the author is suggesting that the best option for dealing with Iran is not to bomb it, but support the efforts of the pro-democracy movement to overthrow their own regime. A new free Iran would be a friend of the US while bombing Iran is due to produce unintended consequences.

Only one country in has overthrown their own regime without outside help and we need to help the Iranian people now.

The good news is that many in the world are slowly getting that an internal regime change is the best of all possibilities.

" Only one country [] has overthrown their own regime without outside help and we need to help the Iranian people now."

"I love to think," he wrote the admiral, "that you will give the first blow to an insolent nation, for I am sure you will appreciate the pleasure of humiliating it and that you know it sufficiently to hate it... May you begin the great work of destruction which will put their nation at the feet of ours. May you do them as much harm as they wish to do us." La Fayette.

If we don't know how freedom was born to us, how can we expect others to achieve it in our midst?

A new free Iran would be a friend of the US....

===========================================

Pure speculation. Well over half of iranians were born after the mullahs took power and the US was shut out. They grew up being indoctrinated that we are the devil, the Great Satan. They are not the Los Angeles Persians.

Given the developments over the last two or three years between China and Iran (trade and energy related) I would say that a new free Iran is more likely to turn toward Beijing than Broadway.
