'Party trumps race' for Steele foes
The Washington Times ^ | November 2, 2005 | S.A. Miller

Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an "Uncle Tom" and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.

Operatives for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) also obtained a copy of his credit report -- the only Republican candidate so targeted.

But black Democrats say there is nothing wrong with "pointing out the obvious."

So, if he were to portray one of his black opponents as an "Overseer" on a plantation, it's all good?

The Rats are in total meltdown in fear of Mike Steele. They will stop at nothing to keep him from the Senate.

Imagine the outrage there would be among the media if Cheney did something of this nature to Charlie Rangel.....

Hypocrites.

Ah seems like the left has been reading out of the same play book used by the folks who used to call "traitorous" whites "N---r lovers" David Duke and the race baiting left. Two sides of the same coin!

I like that idea... I'm white, so I guess I can run a pic of his white opponent in an all white suit (think boss hog), wielding a whip saying 'know your role boy!'

I mean... its obvious they think this black does not know his place. Nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious message of the opposition.

It's disgusting that these are the same people who are weeping at the death of Rosa Parks, yet have no idea that she fought against what they have done.

BINGO! This is the true measure of the depth of their desperation.

I'm figuring Steele might open up a 10 point lead on his nearest Democratic challenger,...regardless of their skin pigmentation.

'...fair because he is a conservative Republican.'
Excuse me? What's fair about that? The statement, the paragraph, are absolutely absurd. And shameful.

Clearly Maryland dems, as well as others, are thoroughly threatened by Lt. Gov. Steele, as well they should be. He's dynamic, nice looking, beautifully educated, accomplished in business and politics, and he has a lovely wife and family.

From my first glimse of him when he spoke at the 2004 RNC Convention, it was plain to see that he's got national political office in his future. Only way that could have been more obvious would have been if there'd been a neon sign stating it hung over his head. But he doesn't need neon. I believe the reprehensible dems know that too.

If I lived in Maryland, I'd do all I could to see that he wins Sorbane's Senate seat. In combination with all of his other attributes, the fact that he's managed to keep his composure when members of his own race have thrown Oreo cookies at him tells me all I need to know about his strength of character. I'm not easily impressed, but he impresses the heck out of me.
