MA AG Reilly pledges to give illegals free tuition as a “civil right”
MA politics | 11/2/05 | ltn72

Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly today threatened Governor Mitt Romney with “going around him” to give free in state college tuition to the children of “undocumented guest workers” (illegal aliens).

This is the latest development in an ongoing political battle between the two politicians. Reilly has been a staunch defender of spending tax payers’ money to give free educations to illegal aliens and their children as the “compassionate” (politically correct) thing to do. Romney has promised to veto any legislation from the State House that would provide illegals with free college tuition. In response, Reilly has announced that he has gathered enough Democratic legislators to override a governor’s veto. Failing that, he is reported to have told aids that he will invoke “consumer protection law” to provide free tuition to illegal aliens and their children. Reilly is a pioneer in using “consumer protection” as a way to make his own law. He invoked this reason to ban the sale of new handguns in Massachusetts when, in 1999, the Legislature failed to ban them through law.

State citizens who are having difficulty raising the money to send their own kids to college are understandably angry at Reilly. However, the Boston area Liberals who control the state vote are supporting him.

Yeah, it's funny that the Declaration is severely unpopular in the worst third-world under-capitalized pits such as former colonies. Probably the US has been implementing the Declaration better than any other major capitalized country. Not that the Declaration is any more than a soft, fuzzy, Lib feel-good wish list.

From the article...
"Currently, students without permanent legal status must pay out-of-state tuition to attend state and city universities and colleges. Out-of-state tuition is often three to five times the cost than in state tuition. As most of these students cannot afford to pay out-of-state tuition, they are forced to forego college and work in low-paying, low-skilled jobs." "Many of these children," MIRA elaborates, "are excellent students who, given the opportunity, could achieve great success. . . . It is a shock to them, and a loss to the country, that they are unable to live up to their full potential and contribute their talents to American society.""

Wow, what a shocker... Taxpayers' refusal to pay college tuition for people who are here in violation of FEDERAL LAW. I guess maybe they should have immigrated here legally.

This article is an excellent illustration of the infinite stupidity of the American Left, a movement that is more a psychological condition then any set of coherent political beliefs. Utterly unburdened by the facts or even reality, this group of lunatics is once again attempting to redefine an issue by rewriting history. In this case, they've actually persuaded themselves that the poor, poor illegal aliens, who must actually pay tuition to attend the college of their choice, should have the US taxpayer foot the bill instead... and that is the reason that they are stuck in low-paying jobs. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are all inherently criminals, or that in many cases they refuse to learn English. Noooooo, it's actually a shock to them that America, which after all has let them attend school illegally, would dare make them live up to the societal and economic codes that everyone else must live by.

Let's get one thing straight... Out of a hundred illegal aliens, there are probably a few who actually are here for a college education. They are not entitled to it, nor are they entitled to one dime of economic aid of any sort, until they are here in accordance with the laws of this country.

Has anyone considered a mental health check-up for Reilly? The man seems to be totally out of his mind!

When it comes to criminal aliens, he's not that much different than GWB. They are both against the rule of law, they have abdicated their oath of office, and, based on that alone, should be removed from office.

Just so I understand this-free tuition because they are the children of illegals? Just et them go for free while charging tuition to legal Americans? There are so many things wrong with this..

I wonder if the prospect of losing two Congressional seats in the 2010 census is the impetus for this. There are 160,000 illegal Brazilians in the state. Making them legit wouls solve the population loss problem for them.

This is the same state where you could serve (as I did) 8 years in the USAF and NOT be considered a veteran, that's right, so as not to be eligible for college assistance & employment preference. This finally changed about 2-3 years ago.

This is the same state that requires the SSNs for each & every resident living at your residence, including minors & grandparents in order to complete an application for "Mass Health" under the pains of perjury, but in the very next sentence states that this need not apply to "undocumented" workers.

Yes that's right, illegals pay the in-state rate while those from Rhode Island & New Hampshire & elsewhere pay the full rate (somebody has to make up the difference).

We've had Dims down here in NC try to sneak through "free" health care for illegal aliens,

No need to sneak any bills through. The illegals already get free health care. And their relatives do too. You'd be surprised at how many parents and cousins just happen to be 'visiting' NC when all of a sudden they develop a major health problem and head for an emergency room. It's all paid for by you and me.

"This is a blue state run by dims, they do what they want, when they want and no one can stop them, that's why this state is the only state to lose residents and the first state to legalized gay marriage, this state is unbelievable and the AG is living proof that stupidity gets you everywhere you want to be."

The saving grace is that the number of independents/unenrolled is growing rapidly in Massachusetts and they definitely trend toward voting Republican. W picked up a substantial number of votes here in 2004, much more than 2000. Not happening quick enough for my taste though. At least the Globe is losing circulation by 6% each year. JOY! ;0)

"It's all paid for by you and me."

I'm referring to regular doctor visits, dental care, etcetera, as opposed to visits to the ER.

The illegals don't do regular doctor visits. They use the emergency room for their health care. It's free.

"The illegals don't do regular doctor visits. They use the emergency room for their health care. It's free."

Dim county commissioners tried to pass a "free" preventative health care program for illegals in my county, that included regular checkups and dental care. I am aware that illegals and indigents go to the ER and do not have to pay for the service. This was taking that "logic" to another, higher level entirely.
