TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's hard-line government said Wednesday it was removing 40 ambassadors and senior diplomats, including supporters of warmer ties with the West, from their posts in a shake-up that comes as the Islamic republic takes a more confrontational international stance.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki announced the changes to parliament, saying "the missions of more than 40 ambassadors and heads of Iranian diplomatic missions abroad will expire by the end of the year," which is March 20 under the Iranian calendar.
Mottaki, quoted by the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, did not specify which ambassadors were among those being removed.
But IRNA said they included the ambassador to London, Mohammad Hossein Adeli, one of Iran's top diplomats and a leading member of the pragmatic foreign policy wing that supports contacts with Europe.

EXPIRE AND HEADS being the operative words...(rolling eyes)
This is beginning to sound a little like Japan back around 1939.
Looks like an eventful Naw-Ruz coming up.
Trouble on the way...
A country that is developing nuclear weapons and that has stated that another country should be "wiped off the map" is, to the AP, merely taking a more "confrontational approach". Wars have been started, and might be again, for far less than this.
It is also looking like Iraq when Saddam took over and killed all of the former government officials.Time to take out Iran and Syria!
I believe they have already recalled some, ordering them home to Iran.
A lot has been written about all the changes in personnel with the new president, but replacements in the Iranian gov't shouldn't surprise anyone, since appointed positions change with a new president, just as ours do. Unfortunately, in this instance, they're being replaced by more hardline radical personnel.
That's what I say.
From The Times:
Now, however, many of the countrys most qualified diplomatic negotiators will be out of work. They include Mohammad Reza al-Borzi, Irans envoy to the UN in Geneva, who has been a key intermediary with Britain, France and Germany over the nuclear issue.
This is an enormous mistake. The regime has shot itself in the foot, said Dr Ali Ansari, an Iranian expert at St Andrews University. It is typical of the insularity of the regime that it creates this crisis and gets rid of its best diplomats just at a time when things could not be worse on the world stage.
Thanks for the update. BAD MOVE on Iran's part! BUT, I supposed we will hear nothing but "Crickets chirping" from the U.N. on this.
World war is brewing.
It's uncanny how Prince Chucky is doing his Neville Chamberlin thing while this is going on.
It's becoming clearer each day that Islam cannot live side by side with the West. Just this past week we have Islamic riots in France, sentence reductions for the Bali bombers in Indonesia, multiple terror bombings in India, and now this.
Wonder how many of the 40 elect NOT to return..
LALALALALALALALALA - DON'T HEAR THE WORLD - LALALALALALALA
Wonder how many of the 40 will still be alive in by the end of the year!
