Where was the MSM on this one? This story obviously did not fit in with their negative, pessimistic, liberal view of the War against Terrorism.
U.S. Frees (another) 500 Prisoners From Abu GhraibAustralian Associated Press | November 02, 2005 Five hundred prisoners have walked free from the Abu Ghraib jail in Iraq, released by the US in a goodwill gesture to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The detainees were presented with a Koran and $US25 ($A33) on their release which marked Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Their release was in addition to 1,000 prisoners set free in October at the start of the month of fasting.
All 1,500, who also received traditional white shirts, were released after their cases went before an Iraqi-led review board and were found not to have committed serious or violent crimes, the U.S. military said in a statement.
"These detainees have confessed to their crimes, renounced violence and pledged to be good citizens of Iraq," it said.
Deputy Prime Minister Abed Mutlak al-Jibouri and other ministers were present for the release, requested by the Iraqi government, but media were not invited to Abu Ghraib, a vast complex about 15km west of Baghdad.
U.S. forces are holding 13,885 detainees, including 5,074 at Abu Ghraib, behind barbed wire at several facilities across Iraq, up from a total of about 11,800 a month ago, a spokesman for the U.S. military's prison operations said.
The MSM is never around to print anything that would make this administration look good.
"These detainees have confessed to their crimes, renounced violence and pledged to be good citizens of Iraq," it said.
Yeah, "good citizens": scope rifles, apg's, ied's, coming soon to a theater near you.
should have put a "Escape from LAish" exploding dog collar on them.
It was reported.
And a lot of lefties say
"See? They were innocent and we abused them anyway."
Its no win.
"These detainees have confessed to their crimes, renounced violence and pledged to be good citizens of Iraq," it said."
1) "These detainees have confessed to their crimes" They admit that they were criminals- therefore they were being held justly. So much for "we are detaining innocent Iraqi's."
2) "Renounced violence" Ooooh I see. So the photos of the meek and bloodied little lambs being drug around by our troops do not tell the whole story, eh? They were "violent people."
3) "Pledged to be good citizens of Iraq." - They will now go out and join the political process, rather than sit around making IED's in their spare time. They will also go and tell their buddies that the Americans are not so bad after all. So much for the "quagmire" theory.
One of the Brits told another one that there was a danger in dealing too brutally with the Americans- who would still be living there after the war was over. I hope it will not be seen as weakness.
I had a cousin who served as an MP at Abu Ghraib for about a year- his squad replaced the moral degenerates who caused all the fuss with the photos. Glad to hear positive news about the place.
Free 'em now, fight 'em later.
The MSM is never around to print anything that would make this administration look good.

True, but this indeed does NOT make the administration look good. What are they doing? Returning terrorists to kill more people AGAIN? I wonder if they are issuing them 50 pounds of C4 explosive along with a clean suit of clothes???
"The MSM is never around to print anything that would make this administration look good."
The MSM is easy to understand. Their goal is to destroy the Bush administration. ALL of their reports are geared to that end. Once this is understood, all their actions become understandable and transparent.
Each option has its upsides and downsides.
Are we sure that they are all terrorists, or did Abu Gharib have car thieves, rapists, and credit card scammers?
LOL LOL LOL!!!
That is too funny!
A subdivision of letting them go would be to A) Hire some of them as informants B) Watch the others very closely
I suppose we could always plant a GPC chip in their left buttocks, with a miniscule particle of pig's blood, in case they decide to go suidice bomber on us. This chip could be removed after a probationary period of say 10 years or so. Of course this would literally cause the ACLU to foam at the mouth and double over with intestinal cramps, after which they would file so many complaints that our court systems would literally grind to a halt.
You see we refer to this as the catch and release program. And the locals ask us why we let the bad men out again. Does wonders for the locals telling you who the bad guys are when they see them back in the neighborhood.
Of course as we already have nice pictures of them in their detention clothes it makes it easier to find them again.
Why we even have picked up the same guy 3 times in my trips here and are trying to catch him again. In other words it is a bunch of crap and a point of failure.
I only watch Fox and sometimes they seem to be lefty.
