I think it's always been called the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge. I just was looking it up and much to my surprise they are building a new one. The old bridge is scheduled to be demolished in 07. That's amazing to me since it's such a huge structure.

Known to many outside the bay area as the boondoggle by the bay, the costs of this little charm skyrocketed after SF and Oakland Mayor Brown(s) scuffled over design. Old bridge is being replaced due to the seismic instability of the double decker design and inability to cost effectively retrofit.

And in the summer of 2007, it is scheduled to be demolished.

The end is coming for the San
Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, which
for more than 65 years has borne
more traffic and superlatives than
most bridges on Earth. The
double-deck structure - a hybrid of
two suspension spans, a cantilever
section and a truss bridge - remains
the busiest bridge in the nation,
carrying more than 270,000 vehicles a day. <<<<

Now I understand why the Bay Bridge was issued a threat.

Thank you.
