LOS ANGELES - A former mayor of suburban Lynwood was convicted Tuesday of federal charges involving the funneling of millions of dollars in city contracts to a sham consulting company he secretly controlled.
Paul Richards, 49, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit extortion, fraud, money laundering and depriving the public of honest services.
Prosecutors accused Richards of arranging to have more than $2.5 million in city contracts awarded to a consulting company, Allied Government Services, that listed his sister, Paula Cameo Harris, as its president.
Last week, Richards denied wrongdoing and told jurors he did not disclose his ties to the company because he did not believe he was required to do so and because he was afraid the knowledge would "politicize" the programs it was hired to work on.
Richards served on the Lynwood City Council for 17 years until he was ousted in a recall election in 2003. He was indicted by a federal grand jury last year.
Lynwood is a mostly Hispanic city of about 70,000 located south of Los Angeles.
Democrat I assume.
Does the story say? If not, of course he's a DEMOCRAT.
You assume correctly; Lynwood is a complete Rat infestation.
I say that every Democrat in the state should be required to resign, immediately!!
/imitation of leftwingnuts
Either way, both are among the most blah places one would want to pass through.
Lakewood and Lynwood were two communities built cheaply for aerospace workers after the war. Lynwood has essentially become an extension of South Central LA, while Lakewood is filled with old folks from what I recall.
Yea I was born in Gardena while we lived in Compton... Yes times have changed
