Perhaps Trent should recommend that if they don't fire Rove at the very least the President allow a Democrat share power with Rove as the President's deputy chief of staff.

This is "payback" and you know what they say about that. Trent would have retained his Senate leadership position if he'd had White House (meaning Karl Rove) support, but he didn't.
You really do have to watch who you kick on the way up.
