Take that, Chuck Schumer.
President Bush yesterday nominated Judge Samuel Alito of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Newark to the Supreme Court......handing Senate Democrats a confirmation fight of a sort they probably never counted on and more than likely won't win.
Alito, to put it mildly, is no lightweight. He's been on the federal bench for 15 years in the process, amassing more judicial experience than any nominee in more than 70 years.
Named to the federal bench by the first President Bush, he has compiled an unambiguous record of respect both for the law as written and for the judiciary's proper role.
Alito, too, has the intellectual bona fides but this time the Senate gets to chew on a record amassed over 15 years.
What does that record suggest?
That Judge Alito very much fits the model of sitting justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. (No wonder MoveOn.Org fell into a horrified swoon at the news.)
In the early '90s case of Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, Alito saw a spousal-notification provision as constitutional. The Supreme Court later ruled otherwise but Alito's reasoning was cited by the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist in a dissent.
More recently, Alito voted to overturn a New Jersey ban on partial-birth abortion citing Supreme Court precedent........as a matter of law, they show clear respect for both the Constitution and relevant precedent.

That's the late PA Gov Casey---last of the great pro-life Democrats.
Having Schumer, Biden and company have their pants pulled down by their intellectual superior, as they did with Roberts, is one of the collateral benefits of the Alito/Miers do-over.
Hey! Someone's been listening to me! I've been calling the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee by the name DUNCE CAP ROW for several weeks here! :-)
Best part about Judge Alito's appointment---the lefties going nuts.
Now, all Judge Alito has to do to get confirmed is remember Chief Justice Roberts words to the Judiciary Committee: " A judge is not a politician. He cannot promise judicial results in exchange for confirmation votes."
Biden, Schumer and the rest of them were flabbergasted.....struck dumb by Roberts' brilliance in fending off the overbearing abortion savages on the Judiciary Committee.
Honestly, when the world was good, Kennedy would have been permanently consigned to the 'compound', and Biden would be selling cars with a toothpick always hanging out of the side of his mouth.
These guys are an absolute disgrace to all that is good and all that is American. Their pictures should be placed next to the text in Democracy in America which warns, that America will cease to be great when she ceases to be good.
BTTT

Just a minute there, Albion Girl - nobody, but Nobody, drowns interns like Kennedy.
We should recognize those who are very good at what defines them. Let us give credit where credit is due. ;-)
LOL Love that post. The mental pic of "Hairless Joe" Biden with the toothpick hanging out the side of his mouth is priceless. Not to mention Teddy in an uplift. LOL.
Biden? Presidential material? That is a belly laugher.
Let's see. Can we guess who he's been talking to?
