IRAN VOWS REGIONAL INTERVENTION
Middle East Newsline ^ | 11-1-2005

NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran has warned that it plans to intervene in the Middle East, including in the affairs of such neighbors as Afghanistan and Iraq.

In the first such high-level assertion, a leading Islamic military commander has placed the United States on notice that Iran reserves the right to intervene in the Middle East, Gulf and Central Asia. The commander said Iran would also seek to control events across the border in neighboring Afghanistan and Iraq.

"Iran is in the center of three strategic and sensitive regions -- the Middle East, Central Asia and the Caucasus ," Maj. Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said. "The Islamic republic, for this reason, can play a decisive role in regional political, economic, cultural and security arrangements."

Safavi outlined Iran's sphere of influence in an address designed to challenge U.S. policy. The IRGC commander said the United States must recognize Iran 's dominant role in the Gulf and warned that it would not be ignored in major regional developments.

Isreal has already said if the US doesn't act, they will.

Isreal would never let Iran get nukes because they beleive the new Iranian President that he thinks they should be wiped off the face of the map.

Of course, Moo-slimes are known for stupid hyperbole (Think Hussein, and the Mother of all Battles), but even so, I would take him at his word. Without nukes, Isreal would have Iran's lunch.

And just why are they so cocksure of themselves now? Could it be Russia and China reviving the proxy wars?

As I've said before, Americans have a very fatalistic view of life. Push at your own peril.

They may not be dumb...but the fact remains that these are sheep willing to blow themselves up for their idiotic beliefs. I believe that these guys, if they get nukes..WILL use them. Unless the people of that country can overthrow that regime, we are looking at big time trouble.

Donald Rumsfeld must be salivating at the prospect of an Iranian intervention.

Get ready for some real "Shock and Awe".

"IRAN VOWS REGIONAL INTERVENTION"

You mean they are going to start hiding terrorists and supporting terrorists in Iraq. It's a good thing they are not doing that already.

While making that threat, take out all their air and naval stations.

The TR is deployed in the area with the last two squadrons of Navy F-14s on board.

That's two squadrons of Tomcat drivers and GIBs who would probably like nothing more to ensure that when the US Navy stops flying Tomcats, no one else is flying them anymore either. If the Iranians want to come out and play, those guys would be more than happy to make their day.

they are not bluffing - they *want* to start a war. think of Iran as a really big suicide bomber and the truth will start to sink in as to what is in store...

hold onto your hat folks, the ride is going to be bumpy to say the least.

Good set of links. Thanks!

I'm sure the Bush Administration is looking at all this, and the dems know what is happening too. Anyone who's paying attention knows Iran is acting like something is about to happen.

It makes today's hysterical dem attacks on our policy in Iraq look VERY suspicious. They knew these attacks would make us look weak and divided in the eyes of our enemies (like Iran), and that right NOW is a particularly dangerous time.

But the dems did it anyway. Just how low can they go?

Muslims never negotiate openly or honestly. If they are puffing up as if they are in a position of strength, it means that they are worried about their current state of weakness.

Possibly. If one were to look at a map, we've got them surrounded, with troops to the west (iraq) to the east (Afghanistan) to the south (saudi) and to the north (turkmenistan??)

i agree..

it is interesting they mention the Caucasus. perhaps Putin might be interested in that.

i for one would be scouring satellite shots to see troop movements....

also expect a little H&I at iraqs coastline....that will be a trigger that something is up....
