"Actually, this is great news - assuming DeWine keeps his word, of course. His vote and Graham's means a 50-50 tie if the Constitutional Option becomes necessary, which of course gets broken by Cheney."

The other five (and many democrats can do this math, and will vote with the majority, too.

There is so much drunken sailor spending going on these days by all -- especially Republicans -- it is really hard to identify any one program as being particularly emblematic of "drunken sailor" spending.

Gee, ANOTHER one of MNJohnnie's "predictions" is falling apart. I thought anyone to the right of Christie Whitman with a paper trail was DOA and "didn't have the votes" to survive a filbuster thanks to the gang of 14.

IF people like Santorum had had the 50 votes to nuke the filibuster they would of done it long ago. They do NOT because there are some gutless or stupid Senators who think that one day THEY might want to Fillibuster a Justice.

Rogers Brown, J. Michael Luttig, Priscilla Owen, Edith Clement, Sam Alito... Why do you think we can any of these thru a Republican Senate that could not even get the votes to overturn a single LOWER court Judical Fillibuster? Posted on 10/22/2005 2:25:37 PM CDT by MNJohnnie
(MNJohnnie also claimed even an well-qualified little known dark horse conservative "wouldn't have the votes" to be confirmed in a REPUBLICAN senate either!!)

Ok Billy Boy. time to put your money where you mouth is. THIS one is on you. YOU get it thru the Senate. Cause those of us that make the party work are sick of the whine all the time chorus sitting on their butts whining. YOu are all mad? OK YOU get the next one thru the Senate. Cause we are done carrying the whiners. This next nominee is YOUR problem. We aren't going to carry the party any more. Posted on 10/27/2005 8:57:35 PM CDT by MNJohnnie

Gee, two of the "moderate gang of 14" have ALREADY said they will NUKE any filibuster against "ultra conservative" Alito. MNJohnnie, are you ready to stop digging yourself deeper in that hole now? Are you ready to admit an error in judgement in your "Harriet is the best we can get" theory or will you wait til "unconfirmable" Alito is sworn in?

"So when they say we are out of the mainstream, they are using words in a manner inconsistent with reality. If there was a uniting theme to the conservative opposition, it wasn't anti-abortion or any particular substantive issue."

"Rather, conservatives respect the law. We have deeply resented its misuse for the last 70 years by clever and willful liberals who would usurp the law for their own policy purposes. We want its rectification, so the true Constitution can return from its exile (somewhere in the Wyoming Rockies, along with John Galt, I think)."

"This was a revolt for excellence. It was a revolt for a faithful scholar of the law. It was a moment of high faith in reason, and in the blessings that will flow from a fair and wise reading of our founding document."

This from Tony Blankley this morning, and I couldn't agree more. What about you MNJohnnie?

I disagree. After the original "Gang of Fourteen" incident the vote count on the Constitutional Option would have been EXACTLY 52-48 (45 Democrats plus the seven RINO gang members), so I assume nothing.

Not to mention, the Miers nomination put every Republican Senator on notice that if conservatives can be this upset at the President - who doesn't face re-election - then they had better oppose this shameful abuse of power by the Democrats or else face defeat within the next few years. Quite a few RINOs, including the likes of McCain, Specter, Graham and DeWine have openly stated the Dems better not attempt a filibuster. For any other Republican Senator to support that filibuster now would be political suicide. Republican voters have finally had thier fill of Senators who won't stand up to the Democrats.

Republican Senators know if they let the Dems filibuster, they'll be looking for new jobs in the next three years.

We have Graham and DeWine on board with more to follow. Even dumb politicians can figure this one out. Count McCain in or finished as a real contender.

You should be more careful Billyboy when you pretend to quote people. Most of those are things said TO me, not by me.

But whine all you want little DU troll. You side has lost the House, Has lost the Senate, has lost the White House and now we are coming for your Court. So be afraid little DU troll, be very, very afraid. No matter how much you try to stir dissension on the Right we are 100% behind Alito and are going to ram him down your whiny Leftist throat.
