Physicians have the term “iatrogenic” to describe illness caused by physicians. There is now a need for a new word, “mediagenic”, to describe scandals which have their origin in malpractice by the mass media. The indictment of Lewis “Scooter” Libby is a mediagenic scandal. A review of the origin of the Wilson/Plame firestorm provides insight into the operations and integrity of two leading member of America’s elite press corps

Media may not promulgate a story with impunity. Cases can be won on the theory of operating with malice, since news stories must be reported "absent malice."

There are some, more often than not coservative, politicians who should sue.

Iraq possesses proscribed chemical and biological weapons and missiles. Iraq could make a nuclear weapon in months to a year once it acquires sufficient weapons grade fissile material.

But if you're the United States, you must wait until the enemy's knife is already in your back before taking action to defend yourself.

Most agencies assess that Baghdad started reconstituting its nuclear program about the time that UNSCOM inspectors departed—December 1998.

AHA! The TOON, the TOOON!! Had to get the bombing done so as not to defile Ramadan! Get that impeachment vote off the news! Only too happy to oblige MR. President say WaPo NYT .

An excellent article; hope it is shared in multiples. . .

Appreciated the comparison of post-Katrina, 'rescuer and firefighter-attacking, thugs' in NO - to our media's finest - for their contribution to the Plame/Wilson or by turn the Bush/Cheney/Rove debaucle; which was-is designed to serve only their own hate-filled; self-serving, agenda.

(I would offer up more pointedly, these thugs in New Orleans, as 'humanity's excrement' and by their own words; the truth-compromised media, as well.)

... and while thorougly disgusted by the non-leak, non-criminal. . .'CIA LEAK and other Bush Crimes', fixation. . .disgusted, even more that Bush did not fight his worst enemy, here at home.

It's really quite staggering to see the NYT and WAPO's roles in this campaign so methodically exposed.

This is a tremendous article!!! What a great summary of the treasonous malfeasance of the NY Times, and WaPo is hardly better. As the author notes, WaPo has made some very grudging corrections, but still falls far short of honest and accurate coverage of Joe Wilson's mendacious depravity. The NY Times fails so catastrophically that this must now be regarded as far more serious than the Jayson Blair scandal. For nearly 2 1/2 years the NY Times has now perpetrated an enormous fraud on the public without making even the most rudimentary effort to correct all of their fraudulent mis-reporting on ths subject.

This article needs to be read and discussed by every journalist and public official in the land!!! Everyone should help forward this around to as many people as possible to try to get the truth out (I know, uphill struggle at best!).

Excellent post.

Both stocks of the Washington Post, WPO, and Ny Slimes, NYT have been falling in value like a duck infected with bird flu.

"In February 2002, according to someone present at the meetings, that envoy reported to the C.I.A. and State Department that the information was unequivocally wrong and that the documents had been forged"

This is the first time I've read excerpts from Kristof's story about the Niger trip. Kristof doesn't say Joe Wilson told him the docs had been forged, another source did.

Why does this make any difference? Cause a second party corroborates Wilson's telling at his debriefing about the docs, which supposedly were not unearthed till 8 mo's later!

Don't assume for a moment that it's 2nd-party corroboration. That's a possibility, but it's much more likely that Joe Wilson is just being referred to in another way as "according to someone who was present at the meetings." In fact, judging from the Senate Intel Committee's report, Joe Wilson was the ONLY person anywhere around the process who would have been asserting (long after the fact, what he did NOT say at the time, since the CIA supposedly did not even have the fake docs yet) that "the information was unequivocally wrong and that the documents had been forged." I'd say, barring further info, that this is most likely Nicholas Kristof channeling Joe Wilson, nothing more.

Hey, I'm assuming, everyone's assuming. It is a possibility, and the way I read the article it's a stretch to say he's not talking about another party.

I'd say it's a good shot that second person was the super secret wife of the super secret envoy.

True, both Joe and Valerie were reportedly having breakfast with Kristof on May 4, 2003.... the morning after both took part in the meeting of the "Senate Democratic Policy Council" to begin their jihad against the WH.
