I know this might get me flamed, but I have never been convinced that Matthews is a rabid dem. I watched him back during the Clinton impeachment and 2000 elections before FoxNews really took off. I actually thought he was pretty fair back then. Also, I heard that his brother stated that Chris actually voted for Bush in 2000. I think Chris turned much more dem after the Iraq war because he is decidely against it. IMO, if you ever notice the rabid statements that he spews, they always relate to the Iraq war in some way.

Chris Matthews is only out for Chris Matthews. No need to flame.

Matthews was a Dem operative in a previous life. I think he worked for Carter and Mondale, if I'm not mistaken.

He was an overeager dry hump kneepadder for the debased & deranged Tip O'Neill. Nothing more need be said.

I can't think of anyone who matched the passion with which Matthews went after Bill Clinton in 1998. Clinton deserved every bit of it and Chris Matthews was unrelenting. He also let it be known that he voted for Clinton, not once but twice. Other than lambasting Clinton at the time, he strikes me as more liberal than conservative.

His criticism of the Dems for how they chose to begin their attack on Judge Alito is open to interpretation.

One, they have no valid reason at the moment to criticize him or secondly, he has no problem with going after Alito but thinks they made themselves look bad by choosing such a lame argument.

I'll go with the second choice, for now.

I'm not at all surprised if Matthews voted for Bush in 2000. Throughout '98 he laid Clinton out with no mercy, and I agreed with him. Why did he think it was incumbent upon him to tell his viewers that he voted for Bill Clinton twice? He mentioned this several times.

At that time, it could have been a confession...an admission that he was wrong. He may have decided that he wasn't going to make that mistake again.
