The UN Security Council approved a resolution Monday demanding Syria co-operate with a UN investigation into the assassination of Lebanon's former prime minister, threatening further action against Damascus if it continues to stonewall.

The resolution was unanimously approved by the 15-member council after the threat of economic sanctions was dropped from a previous resolution, co-sponsored by the U.S., France and Britain.
Russia and China had objected to the initial text which called for the threat of economic sanctions unless Syria co-operated with an investigation into the bombing that killed Rafik Hariri and 20 others.
The two countries have veto powers and were against mentioning sanctions while the investigation into Hariri continues.
A new text says that if Syria doesn't co-operate "the council, if necessary, could consider further action."
The co-sponsors also agreed to drop an appeal to Syria to renounce all support for "all forms of terrorist action and all assistance to terrorist groups."
The resolution was adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which is militarily enforceable.
A UN report into the killing of Hariri implicated top Syrian and Lebanese security officials in the Feb. 14 bombing.
The report also accused Syria of not co-operating fully with the probe.
Getting serious now!
Or what?
Not to worry. I am sure France will intervene to prevent any sort of shooting.
Uh oh. Here comes the stern warnings and if nothing is done the super duper stern warnings.
Another three years of this will be about right.
That'll scare 'em!
And I demand a pony.
Syria to UN: "You and what army?"
Thanks. Good work
Syria to UN: "How many divisions does the Pope, uh, I mean, does the UN have?"
In this case I believe it was Russia and China. Axis of Weasels alert!
Some of Assad's family are bailing out of Syria.....so they seem to have some concerns..
They take turns. Depends on who needs the local votes to be farmed from US-bashing the most.
Oh no! Does that mean the UN will slap hands or actually do something about terrorist Syria? No, they will simply issue more and more warnings with no action, a la Iraq. Such a confirmed asinine and corrupt organization cannot be imagined.
You demand like a girl!
"Or well send you a 'Letter of Deep Concern.'"
Stop or we'll say stop again...
I'm sure France will spearhead a military response if Syria doesn't cooperate. /sarcasm
