I'm very happy, and I applaud the Presidents choice in Sam Alito. Kudos to the President for doing the right thing. Its time now for all to join forces to insure that this nominee gets confirmed to SCOTUS.
The Miers nomination is now history, but it is useful perhaps, for a lessons learned example.
It would be helpful for some Miers advocates to go back, and read some of the many posts that tried to show, in a relatively calm and rational way, how the dems were setting a long term strategic trap for conservatives by suggesting (via Reids short list), that Miers would be an acceptable nominee to be appointed to SCOTUS.
Watch carefully, and see how the MSM, leftist pols, and misc. leftist advocacy groups all try to marshal their forces, in order to defeat what they see (in Alito) as a threat to THEIR long term agenda. Compare with their relatively subdued reaction to Miers.

Me neither. I really didn't know what to make of her, because I could never figure out what there was to like or dislike about her. She had no experience, so who knew if she was conservative enough?
I do like this one, though.

I just hope the next choice is a strong Evangelical like JRB or Coryn.

Your characterization of people who supported the President's right to nominate Miers to SCOTUS is juvenile at best.

The President did indeed have the right to nominate Harriet Miers. But then, he has the right to nominate Howard the Duck if he wants to. We, on the other hand, have the right to shoot such nominees down.
What an awesome day.

Should? LOL. We are happy to rally around Alito. I personally would have preferred Janice Rogers Brown; but Alito is a man of integrity who knows and has demonstrated the proper role of the judiciary. Expect a vicious fight from the left.

The Dems kept saying about Miers ... Could have been worse ...
~
Conservatives are saying about Alito ... but, this is so much better ...
Thanks to all FReepers who engaged in the discourse that gave us a better nominee.

Not that I am looking to disagree here, but I have seen many raise the point that there are too many Catholics on the USSC. I myself am an evangelical. I really have a hard time however seeing why religion matters at all. Like I said on a thread yesterday, I don't care if the justices worship a salt shaker under a blood red moon, so long as they are strict originalists and read the founding documents AS WRITTEN. Nothing else matters to me. Not religion, sex or what school they went to.

I would say it is time for those of us that fought over the Meiers debacle to come together in peace and harmony. Amen to that.
Who was Miers again? I've already forgotten that unpleasant episode. Time to unite behind a man we can all support!

The RINOs are still licking their wounds over Harriet Miers, It's over. It's history. Move on. Rehashing that episode isn't going to do anyone any good.
