Sounds as though the Vatican is worried....about our values and culture.....they're right, of course.
Sounds great. This is a good day for consevatives.
Father Pavone is a good man. Among other things, he tries to work with Evangelical pro-life groups. I got a letter from him recommending support for Survivors (of the Abortion Holocaust), but I've already supported them since they were founded.
He was snookered into recommending Miers earlier, because he was told she was reliably pro life. Now he doesn't want to raise that issue, which is best put behind us. He supports Alito because he's pro-life--reliably so this time.
If Fr. Pavone likes him, I take that as a good sign. I'm not Catholic, but I have the utmost respect for Fr. Pavone.
I didn't realize he had supported Miers. That surprises me.

Thanks for pinging them. I hope they share their thoughts on this subject. I don't want to have to read the other million and one threads to learn more about Alito. Although, what little I've heard so far seems promising.

Fr. Pavone never supported Miers.
Instead, he trusted the President to keep his word and "called upon the Senate to do its work in an expeditious way". In other words, give her an up or down vote, none of this silly filibustering, etc.. That is far different than saying she *should* be confirmed.
That's easier for me to believe. Fr. Pavone doesn't strike me as a man who hastily takes a position he hasn't thoroughly researched.
The very foundation of our written Constitution is what its Framers called a "self-evident" truth--"that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
Until recent decades, that foundation was solid, because citizens treasured and held fast to the concept of an unalienable right to life and liberty.
Jefferson: "The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them."
Now is the time to rediscover a foundation upon which the United States Constitution was formed, to engage citizens in meaningful discussions about what was meant by an unalienable right to life and liberty.
It's so obviously self-evident, how do you go about explaining it to someone who just doesn't get it?
There was a recommendation favoring Miers on the Priests for Life website for a while. I can only assume that he was snookered by the assurances given to the pro-life Evangelical leaders and decided to join them. This was based on Karl Rove's original assurances that Miers was strongly pro-life; which proved not to be true as her earlier record was examined more closely.
So, it was well meant but was based on an initial misunderstanding, just like Gary Bauer's recommendation.
This article looks like an endorsement of Alito, but he never actually endorsed him (as far as I can see.) I wonder if that's the same type of positve remarks he made about Miers.
I'd like to see some pro-life Freeper evaluations of Alito, without having to trudge through the many threads out there.
I'd also like to see some pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia Freeper comments. If they hate him, I don't need to know much more.
