Fr. Pavone never supported Miers.
Instead, he trusted the President to keep his word and "called upon the Senate to do its work in an expeditious way". In other words, give her an up or down vote, none of this silly filibustering, etc.. That is far different than saying she *should* be confirmed.
That's easier for me to believe. Fr. Pavone doesn't strike me as a man who hastily takes a position he hasn't thoroughly researched.
