Tony Snow said on FNC this morning that Specter will either support Alito, or the GOP caucus will kick him out as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
Well, wait and see, but I'm not betting on it.

This is exactly correct. Everybody can chill about Specter. He will be on board, or consigned to histroy as Judiciary chair.
Alito is going to be so impressive in the hearings that Byrd, Nelson, et al, will come on board quickly. Biden, Schumer, and others risk alienating their own Italian Catholic constituencies, so that will temper their opposition. Lincoln Chafee is facing a bitter primary fight from the right and may have to vote for Alito to get through the primary.
Politically, this is a home run.
