I was responding to the statements by some that evangelicals were dissed in favor of Catholics and the still stupid reasons Meirs' proponents are giving as to why she was dropped.
I am not a religious person, but arrive at my conclusions and beliefs using a conservative framework of beliefs. Theminister or Pope does not shape my views. History, experience, logic, and rational thought is what I hope to look to form my beliefs. The fact that they might be on the same side as yours is fine just the same.
However, do you think your thought process is entitled to more deferrance than mine if we ultimately reach the same conclusion, however from different angles?
She's not the least disappointed. Elsewhere on the thread she said she is ready to get it on against the Left. She is, however, showing no confidence in the Senate RINOS.
DUH!!!
Speaking of Nelsons, one can rest assured that Senator Nelson (D) of Florida is going to vote Yea on this one.
He is up for re election in 06.
FYI..I'll ping you to that thread...regards.
"Scooby"!! LOL!! I almost ruined the keyboard!
It's better that "Scooter"...
Agreed. Are any of the up for re-election in '06 or '08? I think this may be our only wedge. Perhaps some could be moved out of committee positions for their disloyalty or perhaps threats to their piece of the federal spending pie?
If anything, Specter might interpret this nomination as a thumb in his eye. Specter's been very clear about where he stands on abortion and judges, and there's not much mystery about Alito. Had he been asked, I think Specter probably would have blackballed him.
Which is why the lefties will really feel down if they can't even force the nuclear option. It'll show the conservatives have more power than they do.
I think President Bush took this into account ;-)
I think that is an old quote from when he was nominated in 1990 for the appeals court.
Did he vote for or against Roberts?
I wasn't really crazy about Miers, but denying her a vote was a disaster in the making for sometime in the future.
@@@@@@
What bothered me the most was the exposure of "principled" conservatives that they are as near-sighted as "pure-politics-no-principles" democrats. Our side always castigated the left for not wanting the Advise and Consent process to proceed. As I see the future, standing on that principle is gone forever. I guess I am more sad than any other emotion at the revelation of the hypocrisy and shortsightedness.
We have reduced all nominees to a fight over their political leanings. As Mark Steyn said, we are getting a system of rule by nine parliamentarians. I do not think we will like who gets on the court in the future, when libs are in the driver's seat. We have given up what little leverage over their picks that I thought we had.
Thnaks..My bad..I should have known..no way Lautie is up this early..
Snowe is up next year in Maine. I'm not sure about the other RINO's. The Dems in red states up next year like Nelson will be a bind as well.
"This is not one of the names I've suggested to the president," Reid said yesterday of Alito on CNN's "Late Edition."
Definitely not. I think Reid Suggested William Jefferson Clinton and Susan Estrich as two very fine potential nominees.
Oh, I'm lovin' this. If just one more justice would retire before '08.....but, if not, President Rice and Vice President Allen will get to pick the next SCOTUS nominee.
I've never seen them act with their feet to the fire. Seems the GOP has been willing to adopt the "give them a pass" approcah, avoid the confrontation because we might not like the result, etc. It's long past time that an issue be put to the Senate, thatthe GOP members can't talk their way around.
Praying that Joe Wilson dies a horribly painful death right now as he speaks to Katie Couric.
I think I will just put you on my "ignore" list for a couple of hours. I am enjoying this nomination and the Rat displeasure, and I don't need to have your negative vibes, Moriarity.
