What case was that? Do you have any further data at all?
And you can't tell the difference between that and a filibuster? The Dems'll love you.
Yeah thanks Mr. President for nominating another white male to the supreme court. yay yay yay Tacky to do it on the day of Rosa Parks services.
tacky tacky tacky
I thought he would nominate a woman. Too bad he passed up another opportunity to prove himself.
Excellent. I for one, would support this nominee.
If you hold your nose and go over to the DU, you'd think the sky is falling. What part of overturning roe v. wade would bring it back to the state level don't the dems understand? I guess the right to crush baby skulls and suck out their brains is in the fine print of the enumerated powers. They call us nazis but then, they defend their own holocaust. They are 'open minded' yet they make anti-Italian remarks like calling Alito 'Mussilito'. They seem to forget that the Italian and German faschists were socialist. Now war has been declared against the left. Crush them without mercy. no more nice nice. It is obvious by their behavior that we can't all get along (but then they said I was a time bomb.)
Let's hope.
The one nominated by Tricky Dick Nixon.
GW nominte a good person with out looking at race or sex, Kinda like what Rosa parks fought for.
Well said and right on!
If the dems are screaming that much, he must be good.
Media doesn't generally grant President Bush prime time.
I believe the answer is mostly because John Roberts was President Bush's first nomination to the Supreme Court and there was enough media interest to get a prime time slot.
Otherwise, the President is in the habit of getting to work early, doing his work and going to bed early.
For prime time, he has to stay up and work late.
Also, I don't think there are many John Roberts out there that can be plucked off trees. He was considered to be far and away the best and brightest of his generation.
Yes,but do the Repubs have the guts to do it?
Thank you! This is one I can wholeheartedly fight for. No stealth, no mush...Hooray!
That'll have to be enough celebration for me. It's time to get to work and get him through.
There aren't too many constitutional lawyers in private practice. If we want a strict constructionist, it's probably gonna be a gov't guy -- or Ann Coulter.
When Rehnquist died, Bush asked O'Connor to stay on and moved Roberts' nomination into Rehnquist's slot. That was explained at the time. So, Alito would be replacing O'Connor.
"What bothers me is how are Miers opponents going to tell the Dem's that he deserves an up or down vote without being laughed out of punditry."
I imagine that if he starts saying that "anti-abortion protesters can be likened to domestic terrorists" as Miers did, or saying that his personal heros are leftist feminists, as Miers said, and if he had no background in the Constitution or was never on the bench, we'd protest him, also..

"What would Goldwater be considered today? Probably a moderate. LOL."
Ha! McCain is what they try to call a moderate these days. So are you trying to tell me that McCain is more conservative than Goldwater? Pul....ease!
"A rather foolish measure to determine the greatness of a President in wartime. I guess Bill Clinton is the greatest wartime President because he defeated the Serbs without the loss of a single American casualty in combat. Gimme a break."
That is a logical statement on the face of it. Afghanistan crippled the Soviet Empire, however. Not to mention, Saddam had a huge army, faced up by what? Three divisions? That's not a major achievement? Kosovo was a bombing raid, nothing more. I'm talking about an actual war. We are in a world war. I dubbed it World War III. Others call it World War IV. Regardless, no president has ever had so much success with such finesse.
The only way we toppled strong regimes prior to this was through blunt force and heavy losses. Perhaps more land was taken more quickly back in World War II, but what do you think the veterans would say about it? "Oh FDR and Truman were great! I just loved D-Day."
Of course, today's success has a lot to do with Weinburger's vision and Reagan's determination.
"To compare the military threat of Iraq and Afghanistan to Germany and Japan is ridiculous. The scale and intensity of today's conflict is a mere pinprick to WWII where almost 60 million lost their lives."
Gee, I wonder how many lives have been lost from the unholy war of Islam?
"The ragtag, third-world, fourth rate militaries of Iraq and Afghanistan have no chance against the world's lone superpower."
Yeah, tell that to the Soviets. You need to develop some historical perspective. The fact we didn't have to conquer Afghanistan is not exactly a mark against a wartime president. Finesse.
"I thought your contention was that the primary was hijacked by some unknown group."
I said nothing about an unknown group. Are you trying to make me sound like a nut? I think you are. Otherwise, your lack of understanding is making me consider repeating my posts. And life is too short. But assuming you are as dense as you are pretending to be:
We have two phases in every election:
1. A primary.
2. Gee what's that other thing? Oh yeah, an election.
