Libs are loony..Last night's West Wing nomination...which has the GOP candidate pro-choice, denouncing an ad by a GOP 527 group whch attacks the Dem for supporting abortion...whereas the Dem candidate, a Catholic, after being banned from communion by a Cardinal in NJ, tells his campaign head that as a Catholic, he believes that life begins at conception, and that abortion is murder.. so guess the Dems will win another TV WH election..
Hennican asserted the case was husband consent, but it really was husband notification. The DEMs will lie, twist and misdirect. It will take calm repetition to undermine their shrill misdirection from the debate at hand.
I was pretty sure Bush would nominate Gonzales, because he's a personal friend, his name has been floated several times in the past and he'd be confirmable (because he's definitely on the RINO side).
I'm glad he didn't, and now I hope the pundit class gets behind this nominee and puts as much energy into attacking the Dems and their RINO supporters as they put into attacking Miers.
When Reid and Schumer are pissed off, I know this pick is good!
They can try but they won't succeed. Let them put their seat on the line if they think they can trash someone else because they don't want a conservative on the SC. LET THEM TRY!
I don't see what your point is. Maybe Alito is privately pro-choice (as Kennedy is pro-life) but no one cares about that. It's his legal opinion that counts, and Alito's dissent certainly was anti-abortion in that it found certain prohibitions on it acceptable. Certain prohibitions, I might add, which are going to be a PR nightmare (a wife must notify her husband beforehand).
There will always be people who don't like other denominations. In any case, if Dems try to bring the issue, I don't think many Evangelicals will bite. On the other hand, Catholics may get offended and will even move to Republican party even more.
They are seared... seared in my memory! ;*)
Would you say the same thing about a surgeon about to do heart surgery on you?
I don't think you're being honest if you deny that abortion is the big issue here too.
Some of them do hate the President. Some does not mean all. If you cannot see the dripping hatred for all things "Bush" in a number of the comments, you are willingly blind.
Now if we can just see Justice Stevens step down and see another strong conservative replace him, the Supreme Court will be in far better shape.
That bears repeating only lourder!
Bush already "lost" Miers, and I think that makes this pick stronger.
If the GOP Senate fails to vote on or confirm Alito, I think that would make GWB stronger still - contrary to popular opinion.
Great pick BUMP from Jersey
My point is that you cannot infer anything about Alito's personal views on abortion from his decision in the case. Nor was his decision "anti-abortion," as CNN described it. It simply was a finding that the husband-notification statute was not unconstitutional.
There could be another case in which Alito would have ruled on the other side. Would that make him "pro-abortion"?
