NEW CBSNEWS PRESIDENT: WORLD SERIES OVER SUPREME COURT?
Sun Oct 30 2005 20:27:16 ET
At his first editorial meeting of the "CBS Evening News" since being named president of CBS News last week, Sean McManus listened to the proposed rundown for that night's program: Harriet E. Miers' troubled nomination for the Supreme Court; the possible indictments of I. Lewis Libby Jr. and Karl Rove in connection with the leaking of the name of a CIA agent, the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma and the World Series victory of the Chicago White Sox.
The NEW YORK TIMES reports on Monday, "Then they said, 'Sean, what are your thoughts?"' recalled McManus, who will remain as president of CBS Sports. "I just said, 'You have to move the White Sox to the top of the show, which is more important than all the Harriet Miers stuff.'
There was complete panic in everyone's eyes, like 'Is this guy serious?' I heard the pause and I said, 'Come on."'
Developing...
Was this a badly timed April Fool's joke?
The Times is furious. Is this guy going to participate in the daily Bush-bash, or is he not?
Man seems to have his priorities in order.
No He is serious, and He is right!
This is called reality, 90% of people do not know all this political stuff, He could JUST save them.
We are not asking for a political switch, just the facts ma'am
And let the chips fall as they will.
If not for football, I would no reason to watch CBS at all.
Does he not look as if......
"Do I really care what these libtards think"?
" Let's go with something that 'sells' !"
At this point, I agree. The only thing that could possibly be more important would be if the Astros threw the series.
He looks like Rob Portman.
Amen... and maybe CBS will start reporting the news and not "shaping" it.
People will always be more interested in sports than politics. Plus something like the White Sox winning is kind of a feel good thing for most people.
sorry, I only watch Brit Hume and I never go to the movies unless they are P.G.!
My guess is that he will just work with the eveing news until he gets the ratings up to at least equality with ABC and NBC.
Then I look for hin to retire the entire 60 minutes air amd management staff. There will be much knashing of teeth .. but they will be retired.
Please post in a smaller type font next time. Thank you.
Decades from now, the children of today may be telling their grandchildren how they remember the great White Sox victory in the World Series of 2005, "the last time a Chicago team won the World Series."
Only kidding...I hope the Cubs do win before many more years pass.
The White Sox deserve their victory, and to be the top story on the news shows.
The 'Stros just flat out got outplayed. They had their chances but couldn't capitalize. The Sox hitting and pitching was just better. Althought I wouldn't mind if I find out Ensberg took a dive. That would be better than believing he was out there trying to be an automatic out. Say it ain't so, Mo. (I know you'll return to form next year, Mo. Hopefully we'll somehow get Adam Dunn to take some of the pressure off of you and Fat Elvis).
It's refreshing that this CBS News Prez seems to have his finger on the pulse of America rather than the deadened veins of the Ivory Tower pseudo-intellectuals.
Do you actually believe a main stream media outlet may be leaving the liberal/socialist camp?
Okay! I'll sink.. who the heck is Rob Portman? I only remember 'Natalie Portman'.. I think as "Wednesday" in that g-d awful re- creation of the Addam's family with the dude who luvs Puerto Rico!
Rob Portman the former Gop congressman of OH-2 the district Paul Hackett ran for after Portman became U.S trade representive.
Portman is being mentioned as possibly helping fill the role left by Libby. Portman has also been discussed as a future senate candidate in ohio or as a vp possibility if cheney had to step down for health reasons.
If you google rob portman's image and this new cbsnews director they look like twins.
