Well, his presence on the Kerry ticket lessened Bush's margin in North Carolina by a whopping one percent, from 13% in 2000 and 12% in 2004.

That's not to say he couldn't be formidable, but I think he'd have a harder time than say, Gov Warner of Virginia, in fooling people into thinking he is a moderate.
