Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald did not find evidence to prove that there was a "broad conspiracy to out a covert agent for political gain. He did not find evidence of wide-ranging criminal behavior. He did not even indict the media's ordained villain, Karl Rove," writes David Brooks in Sunday's NY TIMES.
"Leading Democratic politicians filled the air with grand conspiracy theories that would be at home in the John Birch Society."
"Why are these people so compulsively overheated?.. Why do they have to slather on wild, unsupported charges that do little more than make them look unhinged?
(snip) Brooks quotes from an essay written 40 years ago by Richard Hofstadter called "The Paranoid Style in American Politics."
Hofstadter argued that sometimes people who are dispossessed, who feel their country has been taken away from them and their kind, develop an angry, suspicious and conspiratorial frame of mind. It is never enough to believe their opponents have committed honest mistakes or have legitimate purposes; they insist on believing in malicious conspiracies.
"The paranoid spokesman," Hofstadter wrote, "sees the fate of conspiracy in apocalyptic terms -- he traffics in the birth and death of whole worlds, whole political orders, whole systems of human values. He is always manning the barricades of civilization." Because his opponents are so evil, the conspiracy monger is never content with anything but their total destruction."

"Why are these people so compulsively overheated?..
-
Projection.
Liberals see in conservatives, their own motivations. Where a liberal will usually speak to manipulate, conservatives for the most part speak honestly.
Liberals just don't get that. They believe everyone is as underhanded and dishonest as they are.
Therefore, they read awful intentions into those they disagree with. Thus - the fruitcake nature of liberals.
It's all pop psychology, granted, but with liberals it really seems to apply.

"I didn't see any leading Democratic politic ans painting grand conspiracy theories. What I saw were leading members of the main stream media painting grand conspiracy theories that proved to be untrue."One in the same.

''There was a group that was their enemy and wanted to destroy them''.........Exactly! And I feel that's why they're spinning wildly out of control. The conspiracy theories getting more wild by the day.I hear their conversations about how Bush and Rove control the weather and stop people from voting for them. And how 911 never really happened with planes, but Bush planted explosives in the Trade Center on purpose to blow them up.........Insane? Right? But to them, its all real not imagined and they don't understand why nobody's listening. So they get shriller and louder and more paranoid, kinda like the lunatics in insane asylums, screaming over and over. Crazy?! I'm not crazy. You've got to believe me please!...........

The Democrats are fermenting in self hatred because they stood up and supported an impeached liar under oath and effectively side with and encourage terrorists to murder innocent people in Iraq while they constantly demand we abandon helping the Iraqis to be free.
Then add to that all the usual issues where they stand, like being barbaric murderers with abortion and undermining the family unit by promoting homosexual agendas.
When you finally get right down to it, any reasonable person would eventually become so guilt ridden that they would fail to function as well reasoned adults.
Just listen to most any democrat these days and notice how they actually talk and sound like ignorant children, because in their minds they have to digress back to a state of childhood in order to live with their atrocious stances on the political playing field. And like children are sometimes able to do, they lash out compulsively with intense and unabashed hatred until they are red in the face.
Look at how well they all understood and explained Clinton's ability "to compartmentalize in his mind." They weren't complaining about that, they were applauding it. But when you take that kind of existence to a large scale or group of people like the Democrat party in general, many in fact are not the BS expert Clinton is and so the y become unglued and wild eyed.
What we are learning most from the Democrats these days is exactly how much they hate themselves and it a scary thing to watch and listen to.

""Why are these people so compulsively overheated?.. Why do they have to slather on wild, unsupported charges that do little more than make them look unhinged? " Only just because they ARE completely and compulsively overheated, unhinged, and screeching about some "perceived mortal affront". Just like on the TV series "COPS".

There is nothing pop about it. It's the fundamental attribution error. The leftists KNOW what they are like, and assume everyone is like them. The saddest part is, they know of this error. However, they and their buddies in the psychological community (btw, I am training to be a psychologist- I see it every day) "pretend" they are above it, because they are enlightened (which is why I think alot of them also suffer from narcissistic personality disorder- they think they are the elite, enlightened ones, and everyone else is inferior to them and need them). Sadly, the science I am studying is no longer being practiced, and instead being used for political gain.

These emotions are the type that feed off themselves. Wait long enough, and they'll start going after each other (i.e., put two rats in an operant chamber, shock them both Initially, they'll "freak out" and "get" angry. However, very soon after, they'll start attacking each other, and continue, even after the shocking is stopped).

You're right ... it's classic projection.

Very well said....they wanted Rove to be indicted so badly and it didnt happen and never will. The dems are also big fans of the X files, which they believe as true also.

I've said the same thing over and over about Clinton disgracing his family and his vows. I say the same of anyone. If you could do that to those closest to you...what else are you capable of? I think it will take a long time to know the full extent of Clinton's damage to our country.
