A pursuit of a suspect wanted for a series of robberies ended in a fatal barrage of gunfire after winding through several Southeast San Diego communities Thursday.

According to reports, the slow-speed chase began at around 2:20 p.m. at 65th Street and Imperial Avenue.

The suspect led officers from both National City and San Diego through Encanto, Lomita and La Pressa before it eventually ended when officers shot and killed the man in the 2300 block of Albamaro Street in Paradise Hills.

The 40 mph-chase erupted into a rolling gun battle several times during the pursuit, with the suspect exchanging gunfire with officers, a News 8 report said.

Officers called the chase off at one point when it was believed it was becoming too dangerous, and the suspect eluded officers briefly during the pursuit, but the black Honda was spotted on Paradise Valley Road and the chase resumed, officials said.

It finally ended about 2:50 p.m., when the man stopped the car at Reo Drive and Potomac Street.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, died in the bullet-riddled car.

"I was in my house, and I could see one of the helicopters doing, like, tight circles," an unidentified man told News 8. "And then I heard a car, and then I heard a series of shots."

The police were shooting at this guy while chasing him down the road? Maybe I misread, but that is TERRIBLE policework! Those bullets could go anywhere and the difference between the BG's and the GG's is that the good guys are supposed to care where their bullets fly.

I was kinda wondering the same thing...sounded like they were firing all over the place on what could have been a busy road.
