Shuttle service to begin between Baton Rouge and N.O.

Baton Rouge evacuees who need to get back and forth to New Orleans will be able to catch a free bus beginning Monday, October 31.

A spokesman for the Department of Transportation said the shuttle will be on a 15-day trial and could be continued if it is successful.

The buses will depart from the public transit terminal on Florida Boulevard and drop off at Basin and Canal Street in New Orleans.

The first bus leaves at 4:30 a.m. and will continue every half hour until 9 a.m. Return buses will depart New Orleans beginning at 1 p.m. and going every half hour between 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

It's free paid for by the US Govt.

Ten buses in the AM and Six buses in the PM. Not a bad idea. It gives those evacuees in Baton Rouge still looking for employment free trips to NO to work AND a chance for others to daily check on their homes and work with insurance companies for reparing them.

I assume this shuttle run is considered necessary by NASA to secure their funding? I mean, we know the shuttles aren't safe enough for interplanetary flight, but between NO and Baton Rouge they should be ok, right?
