LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Former Sen. John Danforth said Wednesday that the political influence of evangelical Christians is hurting the Republican Party and dividing the country.
Danforth, a Missouri Republican and an Episcopal priest, commented after meeting with students at the Bill Clinton School of Public Service, a graduate branch of the University of Arkansas on the grounds of the Clinton presidential library.
"I think that the Republican Party fairly recently has been taken over by the Christian conservatives, by the Christian right," he said in an interview. "I don't think that this is a permanent condition, but I think this has happened, and that it's divisive for the country."

Danforth is using conservative Christians as a scapegoat,
hoping that the controversey diverts attention away from economic issues involving global corporatism.

It was really an entirely appropriate place for this Episcopal priest, who's not said a peep about his church's ordination of a practicing homosexual bishop who abandoned his wife and children for his male paramour. The Episcopal church's corruption and Danforth's acquiescence in it fit perfectly with the Clinton Library and massage Parlor.

Episcopalian priest is to Christianity what Clintonian political philosophy is to the Constitution.

Influence of Christians (meaning born again)- be afraid be very afraid.
Are they upset because Christians are tired of doing all the work and not seeing the fruits of their labor?
Are they upset that Christians have principles?
What is their deal on their view of Christians? Isn't Danforth an ordained (liberal) minister?

As a Missourian, I am ashamed of Danforth. Tolerance for anything as long as it doesn't involve evangelical Christianity. What a POS!

Rev. Danforth should worry less about people who have a real relationship with God, regardless of worship style, and worry more about the people who don't.

Hey Mikeus...To cast such a disparaging comment about -all- Episcopalian priests is offensive to conservative anglicans everywhere. Think, next time, before you wallow in your pride and stereotype like that.
Yes, there are plenty of bad Epis priests... just like there are plenty of bad catholic priests and evangelical pastors as well. I daresay, however, that there are more worldwide orthodox Christians in the anglican communion than there are attending any MegaChurch production in all of North America.

I think that the Republican Party fairly recently has been taken over by the Christian conservatives...
Through my special Beltway Discomspintransbobulator - I have the interpretation: Silly Christians, just vote Republican, don't expect a say in anything. The democrats tell this to African-American voters every election cycle.

Nice job Willie, but you're just trying to get it focused on that since it's the only thing you know, I really wish you would be less of a one trick pony. It's the truth.
The GOP has been telling conservative Christians to "shut up" ever since the Gipper left office.
Oh, they still have to pay lip service to family values during the elections,
but there's no doubt that the corporate puppets have other priorities.

I agree with your observation, but I disagree with your views as to why they're doing it. I think they're doing it since they're pro-gay, pro-tax, etc.No. Social conservatism is a thorn in their side.
They deeply resent having to pay lip service to conservative social issues.
It's a distraction from their bottom line: expansion of global corporatism.

Okay, here are some of my trump cards now
- - Stalin: 40+ million dead
- - Hitler: 10+ million dead
- - Mao: 60-100+ million dead
- - Khmer Rouge: 6+ million dead (50% population)
Now these were cases we could have used some hard core Catholicism or Evanglical Christianity.
Godless barbarity far exceeds anything we have ever seen in Christian/Jewish conflicts
Christian/Jewish was choosen purposely as the only religious barbarity that comes close to godless barbarity is from the muslim faith or godless folks who claimed the muslim faith. See the Mogolian Emperor Tamerlane.
