This is a good thing, but still, $50 billion is like pissing in the ocean.

So why couldn't they have cut this and more even pre Katrina?

And of course remember the word "cuts" here just means reductions from the grossly increased budgets for various pork.

Gee, why couldn't they do this anytime between 1995 and 2004? Instead, we now have a federal budget that is $2,700,000,000,000.00

Should I hope for the GOP to finally jettison the Education Department?

We've had $1 trillion foisted upon us in programs over the past five years and supposed to get excited over $50 billion?

House Republicans voted to cut student loan subsidies, child support enforcement and aid to firms hurt by unfair trade practices as various committees scrambled to piece together $50 billion in budget cuts. More politically difficult votes -- to cut Medicaid, food stamps and farm subsidies -- are on tap Thursday as more panels weigh in on the bill.

I don't know how this will play in Peoria. Sounds a bit like they're taking away money from groups that need it to give it to a group that currently needs it more. If the public attitude toward Congress is as down as it seems, this will give opposition candidates some ammunition.

PBS/NPR..let them fend for themselves. Their left wing supporters would not likely pay up! Change would occur.

Scuttle the aid to Africa and cut aid to all other countries by 20%. Cut aid to the so-called Palestinians by 100%. Leave Israel like it is. Just to PO the Arabs.

Make oil companies use their new found profits to build refineries and drill in Anwar, off CA and other places.

Dump the IRS and pass the Fair Tax Act.

Reduce FEMA by 50% and kill NFIP. Forget about rebuilding anything in New Orleans and South Louisiana unless the structure is elevated above the level of the Katrina flood.

Put 20% of all federaly owned lands up for sale on ebay. Auction it off.

Require any federal law that requires money from the treasury to have an attachment explaining exactly how the appropriation is allowed under the US Constitution.

Pass campaign finance reform that says that the only person that can provide monies or anything else of value to a candidate for a federal off may only be a person legally registered to vote for than candidate.

PS - Your nick is cool...-.cnI redruM - I like it!
