Thats absurd. Nixon's nominee Fortas went down in 69 and Nixon won with a landslide in 72. If Bush nominates a good strong candidate and it gets confirmed it will be like harriet Miers never happened.

I think you meant Haynsworth and Carswell. Abe Fortas was a crony of Lyndon Johnson, who unsuccessfully tried to have him become Chief Justice upon the departure of Earl Warren.

Exactly. Harriet Miers will be long forgotten by most Americans just a week from now. Yet the Bush-worshippers are howling and whining like it's the end of the world.
