"What happened to Meirs by many people was not a disagreement ... it was a borking"
No, there was evidence that she was pro affirmative action and abortion.
I'm glad Bork wasn't approved either - he didn't recognize the 2nd amendment as protecting individual rights to gun ownership.
There are always a few, whose remarks go over the top, and there is little if anything which can be done about it.
Even were the above not the case and the Public disagreement was as civil and polite as it could possibly be, it would still be fodder for the Democrats (and the MSM).
If the only action conservatives ever took was the act of breathing, the Democrats would characterize that action as committed by conservatives, as evil.
It is most unfortunate, but that's the way it is. We cannot permit it to stop us from promoting and achieving the success of the conservative agenda.
An argument can be made that those Republicans who continue to PUBLICLY criticize the Miers opponents as meanspirited, are piling on and solidifying the same criticism coming from the MSM and the Democrats which is bad for the Republican party and the Conservative cause.
Few if any of the Miers opponents, though they may disagree with your characterization, are suggesting you keep that opinion to yourself.
