As I said, I hope you like Gonzales. Because I think that's who you're going to get. Miers never even got to state her position in hearings - she was under ill-informed, hysterical media-fanned attacks from day one. How is that a victory for conservatives?

I agree. It just makes Bush look weak to me. I was beginning to feel sorry for her. Why would anyone want to go through that?

So let me get this straight. Did you like Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court? Would she have been in your Top 1000, if you had to make a list? Did you think she had performed well and voiced opinions that you could support?

Just tell me that your honest, heart-felt answer to any of the above questions is "Yes", and I will allow as to you may have a point.

>> Miers never even got to state her position in hearings <<

Ann Coulter was totally unfair on many points, but she was on the nose with this (paraphrased from memory):

"We don't need hearings to know Miers is not a polar bear, and we don't need hearings to know she isn't qualified."

Miers' public record demonstrated she was unfit. Review my previous postings about Miers. You'll find 90% of my comments were appeals to give her the benefit of the doubt, even moreso than Bush himself (example: "What if Miers is a conservative AND Bush is an idiot?", "Miers' questionnaire likely shows a cautious conservative").

If you think GWB is iether stupid enough or stubborn enough to nominate gonzales after this experience, then you have a very low opinion of the type of person he is.
