This is being watched by the whole country, not just CA -- this article is from the Washington Post: spending cuts or higher taxes, which will it be?

All the Democrats know is tax, tax, tax and spend, spend, spend.
Can you imagine where we would be with the combination of the current Dem Legislature coupled with a Dem governor? the dems use budget deficits as an excuse to raise taxes, not to cut spending.

without greater budget discipline ... the state might be unable to meet the mounting demands for everything from electric power to health care to highways.
...
coming from someone that borrowed 15 billion and proposed
~10% increases the last 2 years and is pushing a GReen envirnmental / power agenda for the most part, that rings hollow somehow.
maybe it's just me, but we'll see soon enough .. the next budget or two will tell, whether the reforms pass or not.
the battles that lie ahead for the voters approval of tens of billions of dollars for massive bonds and more spending that will likely come, regardless all the new gimmicks being proposed, will make this special election look like a tea party... imo
This article is available from sites where it doesn't have to be excerpted, btw.
have a good night.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks at a town hall meeting promoting his special election campaign at a private residence in Arcadia, Calif., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005. Schwarzenegger seeks to require public employee unions to get their members' written permission before dues could be used for political purposes, to cap state spending and give the governor authority to make midyear budget cuts, as well as transfer authority for drawing legislative boundaries from the state Legislature to a panel of three retired judges. One man voted against the latest budget which was 'spend, spend, spend.' Just one. I admire Tom McClintock for that; I just wish he held the influence to actually get others to follow his lead.

The first thing you do, is stabilize tha patient.
CA was going into bankruptcy.
THEN you perform surgery -- which is what he is doing now with the Propositions.

All the Democrats know is tax, tax, tax and spend, spend, spend. And all Arnold knows is spend spend spend, blame the Dems and usurp more power. This is so much horse pellets.

Yes and black is white and white is black.
Conservatives supporting Democrats is the "conservative" thing to do in your upside down world.

Tom's supporting them too. *wink* I was merely trying to remind folks that virtually every California Republican signed off on more spending, blowing through huge bond issues, and even more spending. The disease in this state is far beyond one budget, or the acts of one governor, and no matter what people might think about Arnold or Tom, at the end of the day, there is virtually no support in Sacramento for cutting spending. If this proposition has even a chance at curbing the runaway spending, then it deserves our full support, because we've got very small voices up there.. Or rather, a single voice for reducing spending.

Indeed, spend, spend, spend - it requires Republican support. In the House and the Senate because we hold majorities there, and here in California because of the two thirds requirement for passing budgets. (Or virtual requirements, I'm sure someone will argue the point with me on that, so I'd best concede it now.)

The first thing you do, is stabilize tha patient. You call increasing total debt by 50% and spending by 17% in two years "stabilize the patient"?
That's like opening up a femoral artery with only one unit of blood on hand.
Even you can't be that insane.
