Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger warned Wednesday that legislators could push California into a nightmarish era of higher taxes and runaway spending unless voters endorse his proposal to place tighter controls on the state budget.
In a staged poolside appearance at a private home, the Republican governor told an invitation-only audience that Proposition 76 would give him the tools to fend off a Legislature eager to dig deeper into taxpayers' pockets.
He also suggested that without greater budget discipline, the state might be unable to meet the mounting demands for everything from electric power to health care to highways.
"They have come to me with ideas like raising the property tax, raising the income tax, raising the taxes on the rich, raising the sales tax, and the tax on gasoline," the governor said, referring to the Legislature's Democratic leadership, which opposes the initiative.
Schwarzenegger said Democratic leaders "always want more because they are spending addicts _ they cannot help themselves."

Time to terminate some girlie men
All the Democrats know is tax, tax, tax and spend, spend, spend.
Can you imagine where we would be with the combination of the current Dem Legislature coupled with a Dem governor? the dems use budget deficits as an excuse to raise taxes, not to cut spending.
without greater budget discipline ... the state might be unable to meet the mounting demands for everything from electric power to health care to highways.

coming from someone that borrowed 15 billion and proposed
~10% increases the last 2 years and is pushing a GReen envirnmental / power agenda for the most part, that rings hollow somehow.
maybe it's just me, but we'll see soon enough .. the next budget or two will tell, whether the reforms pass or not.
the battles that lie ahead for the voters approval of tens of billions of dollars for massive bonds and more spending that will likely come, regardless all the new gimmicks being proposed, will make this special election look like a tea party... imo

have a good night.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks at a town hall meeting promoting his special election campaign at a private residence in Arcadia, Calif., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005. Schwarzenegger seeks to require public employee unions to get their members' written permission before dues could be used for political purposes, to cap state spending and give the governor authority to make midyear budget cuts, as well as transfer authority for drawing legislative boundaries from the state Legislature to a panel of three retired judges. Notice the horribly unflattering pictures the MSM takes of Arnold lately,
The first thing you do, is stabilize tha patient.
CA was going into bankruptcy.
THEN you perform surgery -- which is what he is doing now with the Propositions.
Arnold is not only supporting Arnold's propositions, but he is actively campaigning for them. See links in my post 1.
And all Arnold knows is spend spend spend, blame the Dems and usurp more power. This is so much horse pellets.
sort of like Tom Coburn in the thieving US senate.
Yes and black is white and white is black.
Conservatives supporting Democrats is the "conservative" thing to do in your upside down world.
See links in my post 1.
Everyone can see for themselves who is on what side.
Typo -- I meant Tom McClintock is campaigning for and supporting Arnold's reform propositions. See my post 1 for links to articles.
Everyone but you.

Schwarzenegger Vows to
ReinReigninon Spending
You call increasing total debt by 50% and spending by 17% in two years "stabilize the patient"?
That's like opening up a femoral artery with only one unit of blood on hand.
Even you can't be that insane.
Ahhh... but he also knows how to BORROW (and spend spend spend)!
yes you are right. borrow and spend it is.
