He also said the evangelical Christian influence would be bad for the party in the long run

I agree completely. And Danforth is an ordained minister! Bravo!

In my opinion, the hard-core religious right is an embarassment to the conservative movement.

What you take to be the "hard core religious right" is hardly "hard core", nor are they all that "religious", and some of them even have liberal notions now and then. On the other hand, they are in the overwhelming majority in the Republican party.

If you don't like it, leave.

"I'll give you examples: Iraq. Northern Ireland. Palestine."

"I agree completely. And Danforth is an ordained minister! Bravo!"

You completely agree?? This guy sounds a little over the top--a bit extremist to me--hyperbolically ideological.

He's an Episcopalian. Explains everything. Social liberals eventually morph into fiscal liberals too, and then what's the difference between them and leftist Democrats?

Hint: Nothing.

Do you have any examples to support your claim of embarassment?
Being an ordained minister does not a conservative make. Barry Lynn would be one of the most obvious examples.

If it were not for the religious segment, conservatives would not win elections. Try winning an election without us.

"And Danforth is an ordained minister! Bravo! "

And so is that little Christian-hater that heads up the "Separation of Church and State" group that completely distorts what that actually means.

Being "ordained", especially in certain mainline religions today, means virtually nothing. It's only good for giving credibility when they take off-the-wall liberal stands on things, just like when a Republican senator criticizes the President he's considered suddenly worth listening to.

You sound like someone who's more worried about what those who disagree with you on the vasty majority of issues think, than those that agree with you on 90% of everything.

That's not only bizarre, its ridiculous.

I shall thank the Good Lord tonight that you or Danforth don't speak for me and never will.
