Only hours after his appointment, a politically oriented Web log reported that McManus had made a $250 contribution to the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2004.

BUT

A year earlier, he contributed $1,000 to Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy (news, bio, voting record)

I suppose McManus will have a presser detailing CBS' rich history as a pioneering news organization, home to Murrow, Cronkite,Sevareid, and Lyin' Dan, and then name a new anchor just like the old one, and CBS News will continue to tank.

Or, if he's really brilliant and ballsy, he could look to FNC and start a true newscast, instead of DNC talking points every night! And fire the entire staff of 60 MINUTES while he's at it!

In the best of all worlds, they would have hired Patrick McManus.
