These people had days to prepare; heck after the last hurricane season especially, every resident of Florida should own a generator and keep emergency water and food supplies on hand at all times. What is it about these people that they don't understand "being prepared" ?

I live in the country and am subject to frequent power outages in times of bad weather. I own a generator and keep emergency supplies on hand. I don't stand in line for relief and whine when I have to take care of myself and my family !

That's what I thought. As a former Floridian, we knew we may be without water and power for at least several days after a hurricane and prepared accordingly. Our society has now become so dependent on government that people cannot survive a few days on their own after a hurricane hits. If people followed the advice by officials, they should be okay. I am really tired of listening to them whine.

Well, said. We are in the same situation and we are also prepared. We could easily go a week without going to the store. (That reminds me that I need to fill up my gas cans. Thanks.) I just can't believe that anyone who lives in FL doesn't already have a generator and plywood ready and doesn't stock up before hurricane season hits. Bottled water can be drunk later if you find out you didn't need it and it's not such a huge outlay. Same with food.

You're the way most Americans used to be and some still are.

If necessary, I could have, would have walked out of New Orleans pre Katrina. I know some could NOT have, but many could have. Mostly the big fat, "poor" "victims".

I don't understand all the helpless, whining "victims" who didn't think or can't/won't take care of themselves.

Who are the people who expect Uncle Sam to take care of them and provide everything for them?

Same here! The last ice storm we had a couple of years ago, we were the last folks to get our electricity. It's because we're so isolated: stands to reason that they'd hook up densely populated areas first. We know that, and we prepare for it.

What's the matter with these people that they don't realize that they're living in a hurricane-prone area, and that "stuff" happens? I have no sympathy for the bunch of whiners I've seen today. I'm sure some people are genuinely hurting, but not the ones interviewed this morning.

I agree with you 100%. I live in South Florida. I lost my home during Hurricane Andrew and rebuilt. People are just depending on the government for everything. I can understand if your home is totally destroyed with everything in it. But the local officials are not Houdini and they tell everyone over and over to have water, non perishable products, etc., for every member of your family for a few days.

People need to be prepared and they are not because most of them are irresponsible and depending on the government for everything. When the gov. does not have bottles of water and ice on their footstep an hour after the hurricane they are complaining. Tough. Be responsible and stop the dependance on others.

Let them whine.
