Contrary to what many people think, Cali went from being a swing state to a Dem state NOT because of an increase in Hispanic voters (they have been slow to register and have low turnouts), but because of an outflow of conservative whites. That leaves white liberals, Asians (who lean Democratic), Hispanics and blacks, with white liberals still calling the shots more or less.

...because of an outflow of conservative whites.

Pretty much. That's why San Diego city itself is moving more and more Democrat while the *county* continues to overall tip Republican.

The Dems depend on making cities into unlivable areas to concentrate their power by driving the more conservative and traditional types away. They do it through taxation and social policies. By changing the make-up of the city and pandering to the new "left behind" demographics. Join our socialist utopian metropolis where you don't even have to learn English because we'll accommodate you, you don't have to get an education because it's not your fault we can't spend $100K per student, etc. And then they demonize Republicans (or racism, or big business, or the rich, or big oil, etc.) with the usual class warfare, race-card, hate-filled victim-mentality pandering and the city turns to CRAP. Look at most of the largest cities in the North East or Upper Mid-West. Or L.A. Who runs them, what's their economic situation, how much power do the municipal unions have?
