A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

OUTRAGEOUS!!!
A thread about the color green? Why not. (besides I wanted to use my new lily pad backgrounds.) Green.. Endless possibilities - the lucky green four leaf clover; malachite; broccoli; the Isle of Green - Ireland; Show me the Money Green; Green Mansions - a great movie from years past; jade; seaweed; and sKerry - green with envy - as he LOST!
Here are a few green thoughts & Links. Do you have a green story? Green nightmare? Green underwear?

It's not that easy bein' green Having to spend each day the color of the leaves When I think it could be nicer being red or yellow or gold Or something much more colorful like that
It's not easy bein' green It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're Not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water Or stars in the sky
But green's the color of Spring And green can be cool and friendly-like And green can be big like an ocean Or important like a mountain Or tall like a tree
When green is all there is to be It could make you wonder why But why wonder, why wonder? I am green and it'll do fine It's beautiful! And I think it's what I want to be

It's cool here too Gail. In the low 40's and a windy day with rain still. I have all my tropicals outdoors & they are big Several of them over 10 feet high & in Big, heavy pots. Hope the frost/freezes will wait a few more days.
I NEED A FEW MORE DAYS..
And Pip, I am drinking Green Tea. I like the flavored (unsweetended teas) and black or green unsweetened tea. My only addition now & then to black tea is a chaser of orange juice.
Gail, are you still seeing the gentleman you met dancing? We don't see you as much anymore & I am hoping it is because you are very happy & busy with your friend.

Oh Bob.. you don't know how appropriate this poem is (sistah's, can you catch it???) Thank you FRiend. Your contributions are always fun & clever and you have it done in Green!!!
And No, dutchess I did not know that the voice (ho, ho, ho) of the jolly green giant is now silenced, When I went to the site to get the pix, I copy pasted it right onto my "platform" without saving it in a file on my hard drive(quicker & I am lazy). for some reason he was cut in 1/3 & 2/3 as you see on the ping. I cyber glued him together for the body of thread. I wonder why they did that?
sistahs, I did that thread very hurriedly. Started after 9 PM. Knew I wanted to use the green but just didn't know what I would emphasize. I thought of all the green things I like (and I do like a LOT of green things) It is my second favorite color next to red. Rather than just pick one, I did the ADDH thing & did a touch of all.
Billie, I have several HTML questions & will get them to you when I have time. Maybe in next day or so. How is your schedule? I will go out tonight for first time in few days to my support group. Will go gently for sure. Still cannot walk well since my fall
All, My hand swelling is better today. It is still very swollen & sore but down considerably. the last time I had this situation was about 25 years ago & the pattern was about 4-5 days til normalcy.
Cali had a seizure Monday morning early & as I restrained her she bit into my hand. No muscles, vessels or nerves were cut (I had that once about 15 years ago & needed surgery.. see i DO go to the doc if it is beyond my self cure) but this was just the allergic reaction. I was told you only had that once in your life (by vet) and then were immune. And I have had MANY bites. when you do cat rescue, it is common.
Strange - Hmmm...I think I would have been more fastidious in soaking, cleaning it initially, had I known.
And Bob back to your poem. I note I need to cut the grass one more time. It is all so wet now. Might get friend to help or hire out as it is a big job here with walking, electric mower

Hi there! I love your fried Green Eggs (and that made me think of a movie I should have included in links..Fried Green Tomatoes - a fun movie.)
My green food story. In NC we had a large socially active Sunday school class. We had monthly socials at each other's homes, lake outing etc.
It was Bob (my ex) and my month & it was March & the event fell on St Patty Day. We made a completely Green meal. Salad & green beans & peas were acceptable (green goddess salad dressing, of course) And we made several Green Angel food cakes w/green 7 minute frosting & green tinted coconut.
The corker was the mashed potatoes & turkey. We did 4 turkeys & sliced them & soaked slices in green turkey broth until color was absorbed. We used the broth for green gravy & also added the food coloring to the mashed potatoes.
It was weird looking but all felt it tasted okay despite the initial shock. Only one problem was a 7 month along pregnant lady who lost it before she even ate anything. She said she was sick all night just from the visual.
We had about 50 folks there & had a nice time. We played "green games" & everyone was to wear green, which most did. I might have some pictures - somewhere.

Thanks Pippin.. Green is my mom's favorite color & my second fav..your thread yesterday was near & dear to my heart also. I might get time to write a few of my ghost stories out for weekend. right now I have Friday done, but still need to work on Sat/Sunday tables. The ghost story day is Friday & that table is essentially done, although I may add a few small things along the way. I have used other's ghost stories, & referenced yesterday's thread in one of the links
I hope you get internet going soon at your house. bummer to be without

I think this is my last one (no promises).
Poetry of William Blake
THE ECHOING GREEN
The sun does arise,
And make happy the skies;
The merry bells ring
To welcome the Spring;
The skylark and thrush,
The birds of the bush,
Sing louder around
To the bells' cheerful sound;
While our sports shall be seen
On the echoing green.
Old John, with white hair,
Does laugh away care,
Sitting under the oak,
Among the old folk.
They laugh at our play,
And soon they all say,
'Such, such were the joys
When we all--girls and boys -
In our youth-time were seen
On the echoing green.'
Till the little ones, weary,
No more can be merry:
The sun does descend,
And our sports have an end.
Round the laps of their mothers
Many sisters and brothers,
Like birds in their nest,
Are ready for rest,
And sport no more seen
On the darkening green.

You never heard about GREEN M & M's?
Where have you been? hahaha
According to snopes:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.snopes.com/sex/aphrodis/mandm.htm
The rumor that these green candies are an aphrodisiac apparently started or first gained prominence in the 1970s, when students reportedly picked the green ones out of packages to feed to the objects of their desires. (At that time, an average of 10% of plain M&Ms and 20% of peanut M&Ms were green.) Why the green M&Ms were attributed with this power is unknown; perhaps it was because the color green has always been associated with healing and fertility.

Absinthe has been banned in the US for quite a long time. It was the drink of many poets (Rimbaud, Verlaine). For over 200 years, absinthe has enjoyed the reputation of being a creativity enhancer and aphrodisiac. Said to have been popular with the likes of Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and Hemingway.
Picasso painted 2 works:
1911: Glass of Absinthe, an "analytic cubist" oil on canvas.
1912: Bottle of Pernod and Glass, a "synthetic cubist" oil on canvas.
