WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With charges expected as early as Wednesday, federal officials investigating the exposure of CIA operative Valerie Plame conducted last-minute interviews with her neighbors and associates of Karl Rove and other top White House aides, lawyers said on Tuesday.
Marc Lefkowitz, who lives across the street from Plame, told Reuters two FBI agents asked him on Monday if he knew about Plame's CIA work before her identity was leaked to the press in 2003. Lefkowitz said he told them: "I didn't know."

Or, alternatively, he's simply part of the cover.
Anyone know anything about this guy?
This is very worrying because it shows Fitzgerald is not up to par.
Reporters like Andrea Mitchell have said that reporters in washington knew Wilson's wife worked for the CIA.
If Fitzgerald hasn't figured that out yet then he doesn't have his eye on the ball.
And how long had this neighbor lived across the street from her? Had he ever spoken to her or her lying hubby? Had he even met them?
Inquiring minds want to know.....
If this report is true (and I have my doubts), then it would be an outrageous admission of incompetence on the part of the Fitzgerald investigation. This basic inquiry could have (and should have) been conducted on Day 1.
On the other hand, it is conceivable that this fellow is lying on behalf of his neighbors, with whom he may be friends. It is, of course, not a crime to lie to ABC news, and so would not represent any exposure to criminal charges (ie, would be no skin off his nose just to make this stuff up).
The leaks are coming fast and furious tonight, and this one smells very funny. If this guy is lying for Wilson/Plame, then it might indicate trouble for that dynamic duo (wishful thinking alert).
Is this guy perhaps a left-wing lobbyist of some kind?
It is disturbing simply because it shows he is still investigating the supposed leak, not the supposed perjury.
It's just the lefty MSM trying to make a point about how "dangerous" it was to out a desk jockey at CIA Langley. Even her neighbor didn't know she drove to Langley everyday - deep cover.
leak-fest. this inquiry is (you should pardon the expression) bush league.
Joe Wilson and his wife were part of the Washington social scene. Reporters knew she worked for the CIA.
Didn't Wilson also identify his wife in some who's who book.
That was the book CNN was about to ask Novak about before he was kicked off CNN.
to be honest, the way this prosecutor seems to be acting - this neighbor gave the smartest answer he could "I don't know anything". that's what I would say too.
"Reporters like Andrea Mitchell have said that reporters in washington knew Wilson's wife worked for the CIA."
Watch the ball:
"if he knew about Plame's CIA work"
Yeah, but did he know she works at the CIA, not knowing what she specifically does there?
That's a distinction in this case.
Along with "identifying" her as "wife" or by name.
This event plus the WP story about new doubts concerning J. Wilson make me think something has created a problem for the special prosecutor. Since this should have been previously investigated, it sounds like something new has emerged that is causing second guessing by SP's office.
[Nevermind that they had to pull that claim right away.]
It sounds like old information. This a redeux of October 2004.the press is now dumping.
East, think about what I just posted. Why would fitz be talking to the neighbor???
LEFTkowitz?? Sounds certifiably Liberal to me.
he was trying to determine whether Plame's identity was "common knowledge" amongst people she might have come in contact with - like her next door neighbor.
