Howard Dean wants "to have ethics come back to Washington again" and return us to the thrilling days of yesteryear when the Lincoln bedroom was for rent and there was no controlling legal authority.
Claiming the Bush White House was the most corrupt administration since that of Warren G. Harding, DNC Chairman Howard Dean made those remarks at Saturday's annual fundraising dinner for the Maine Democratic Party at the Lewiston Armory, repeating what may be a campaign theme in 2006 and 2008.
But it may not be the wisest strategy seeing that the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination is one Hillary Rodham Clinton, the "two-for-one" spouse of one William Jefferson Clinton, one of the "co-presidents" for whom ethics and fundraising were words not often found in the same sentence.
Dean's latest hyperbole comes on the heels of former Clinton FBI Director Louis Freeh's recent book revealing the difficulties of fighting for truth, justice and the American way in the Clinton White House, where the meaning of the word "is" was hotly debated.
Among his many observations, Freeh blasts Clinton for his 177 last-minute pardons and commutations without consulting either the FBI or the Justice Department, contrary to established procedures. One of those was March Rich, who fled to Switzerland to avoid 50-plus indictments for fraud.
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. In Hillary Clinton's case, it was worth $50,000 when Johnny Chung sought a photo-op with the Clintons for himself and a few close friends. Rebuffed by then-DNC Chairman Don Fowler, Chung showed up at the White House with a $50,000 check he handed to Maggie Williams, Hillary Clinton's chief of staff.

Someday I want to post an article that consists of a single exclamation point as the headline, and a question mark in the body.
I wonder if it would become one of those 'classic threads'.
Bush isn't the conservative I had hoped for, and I have mostly left the reservation because of that -- but I will NOT accuse the man and the administration of ethical lapses!
I agree with you - I have problems with Bush's policies, namely spending in particular, but I don't believe he is unethical.
Regards, Ivan
Not even slightly.
Let us compare and contrast with the coming Hillary! administration.
She's so bad, I don't expect America will have elections after the year 2012 or 2016.`
Howard Dean reminds us that, as much as many conservatives may disagree with the policies of President Bush, the ethics lapses of the previous Oval Office's occupant have largely disappeared - political witch hunts notwithstanding.
Speaking of political witch hunts, given the nature of the "crimes" each is pursuing, one can't help but wonder if Ronnie Earle and Patrick Fitzgerald are related. Each seems to share the same disrespect for the law and the same zeal for political witch hunts. Hopefully, those characteristics will lead each to the same ignominious end.
Truer words were never written.
If Hillary runs, I'd be tempted to take a sabbatical in 2008, and set up in America for a year just to help campaign against her. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, should she be allowed to become President.
Regards, Ivan
I just find it absolutely amazing that Screamin' Howie has the nerve to mention corruption when the party he represents has the biggest list of crooks ever seen in the history of politics anywhere in the world.
God help us all if that collection of traitors, The Clinton's, J f'n Kerry, and drunken Ted Kennedy ever gain power. We won't have a country left if that happens. We will have to have a civil war if we want to keep America American.
"President-elect Bill Clinton, at a news conference in Little Rock, Ark., to announce his remaining Cabinet selections, said he wanted to learn more about the pardons, adding, "I am concerned by any action that sends a signal that if you work for the Government, you're beyond the law, or that not telling the truth to Congress under oath is somehow less serious than not telling the truth to some other body under oath.""

Why the man is the epitamy of righteousness!
Here is what The Bible says about Howard Dean: "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" Is. 5:20
We're not the only ones looking askance at Dean.
So how did it go?
And that Pelosi comes out in front of the cameras and does her Fire Marshal Bill imitation screeching about 'culture of corruption.' The whole last Democratic administration was the very definition of a 'culture of corruption,' and they want that back in the worst way. And the Marxist media will help them cover it up and lie to the gullible masses through it all.
We, the American people, will be sold completely down the river if that happens.
It's ongoing. Click that link to see.
Wouldn't surprise me. The Left basically looks down their nose at the electoral process and appears to be more despotic in their attempts to seize and hold on to power. I give it no more than 50 years before elections are outlawed here. I'm serious. The left will stop at nothing to rule the world.
Come on down. I'll provide living quarters and an office for you in God's Country.
