Man, you said it! The three things I most associate with Gustav Adolf the Great--militarism, nationalism, and Lutheranism--today are held in disdain by a large segment of the Swedish population.
Arthur is expected to return to Britain someday, why not Gustavus Adolphus to Sweden?
(Except, of course, that they are both dead and the expectation of their return is the fairy tale ending to their stories.)
