Conservatism is an ideology, not a party thing.
Oh, do not fear. We have been predicting that the Democrat party is being killed by the communists and that the Republican party is moving left as the classic liberals jump the doomed ship of the democrats as fast as they can and come to our side. That's good for you! You may not need the Conservative "base" any more. That seems to be what Bush is counting on.
We think, though, that there is a conservative majority in this country that believes in fair play, not ideology über alles. We know we need a new party on the right to maintain a two party system.
What we fear is happening, however, is that at the same time that the communists are being marginalized on the left, the conservatives are being marginalized (and criminalized) on the right. What we may wind up with, if we are not careful, is a one party system, and if we do it will be a deadly development for the Republic.
Of course, most of you people don't even think we ARE a Republic, you think we are a liberal democracy, something entirely different.
