Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election & Why They'll Steal the Next One Too (Unless We Stop Them). Mark Crispin Miller. Basic Books. $24.95. 284 pp.
What would it do to Americans' image of themselves, their country and their democracy if it turned out that a presidential election had been stolen?
That's the question Mark Crispin Miller, author of The Bush Dyslexicon, challenges Americans to ask themselves in his latest book, Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election & Why They'll Steal the Next One Too (Unless We Stop Them).
Miller has done his homework, and his sources are numerous and scrupulously footnoted. He comes close to convincing an open-minded reader that the 2004 election was a gigantic fraud. His exhortation to Democrats "not to milk it for partisan advantage but to use it to promote, and realize, electoral reform" is the book's stated purpose, and Miller does make a strong case for reform.
Among other things, he recommends doing away with electronic voting, which he says "can never be entirely secure," and using standard paper ballots instead. He also would federalize the electoral system so as to replace "local bigots or politicos" with trained civil servants at the polls.
Miller makes it clear that there is much to dislike and distrust about a political movement -- evangelical conservatism -- that pretends to get its politics directly from God. Unfortunately, this is an unabashedly partisan book that is often as overwrought as its title. That tends to undermine Miller's credibility to a degree that can frustrate the reader.

Using paper ballots didn't stop the dems in Washington state from stealing the governor's election...they just "discovered" more votes every time the dem candidate was thought to be behind...votes were discovered something like 8 separate times in King County alone...which is, of course, the primary base for democrat votes in the State.
And unlike the contention in this ad for this guy's book, even partisan democrats I know admitted the election was a fraud and some said they will no longer vote democrat...so they can steal elections, but they lose people each time it becomes clear they have done so.
Of course we know the masters of voter fraud the Democrats could never figure out how to forge paper documents, just ask Dan Rather and the Travis Country Democrats.
He also would federalize the electoral system so as to replace "local bigots or politicos" with trained civil servants at the polls.
And of course the "hire more Federal employees" mantra the lefties see as the cure for everything. You know what I think I would rather have my "local bigots" (typical tolerant liberal for you) at least I know who they are and how to vote them out of office.........
hey, it's the Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentenel, the most biased rag of a paper published here in Florida. Worse then the St.Pete Times.
If you aren't anti Bush, anti repub, then you won't get published in these papers.
Worse than the St. Pete Times? Truly awesome.
Well, I though I would give it a try anyway. I sent the following letter to the editor.
I just finished reading the article by Timothy Dodson, about the Miller book, "proving" that the right stole the 2004 election.
Mr. Miller's proof could be countered by almost any good high school debating team. Yet there is still plenty of evidence regarding vote fraud, it just points in exactly the opposite direction.
Which political party is infamous for manufacturing votes?
I, and most other conservatives, I have ever spoken with, would be thrilled to have 100 percent vote-counting integrity. We would be more than happy to work with anyone who wished to insure that only one vote was counted for each legally registered voter.
No kidding.
"That tends to undermine Miller's credibility"
No kidding.
They can decide by the appearance of the stubs--or "chads"--left on the torn ballot--or, if the ballot wasn't torn, by the way it was crupled up or folded or something like that--or maybe they could hold hands and have a seance!
After all! It's the voter's intent that matters. Some voters might have marked the wrong place on the ballot--and Democrats can determine that too!
How about it!?!!
Funny how the ones who are AGAINST real, valid reforms such as requiring picture ID are the Democrats. Why do you suppose THAT is...?
These lunatics are the enemies of democracy.
There's your invincible racism and nativism on display for all to see. Obviously you hate and fear Hispanic-Americans-Of-Dubious-Provenance and our cherished Homeless-Americans, both groups historically disenfranchised by by Republicans.

If the election were really stolen then why aren't Kerry and Edwards out there screaming about it? I suppose the lefty loons think they've been threatened or silenced or paid off in some way.
Sheesh wasn`t electronic voting what the libs were all screaming for after the Florida hanging chad debacle in 2000.
So hard to keep up with their mindless whining.
I have much better things to do than read another POC from the left about "W" stealing an election. For one thing it's time for my morning ablutions.
