LOL - the raft is still there. I guess I forgot to cut the line...big boat is fine too. No new additions to the vessel family today.

Just got off the phone with my friend in Palm Bay. He still has electric, cable, phone, and air conditioning, but his utilities are all buried.

He did say he was very scared, however. Said he heard on the radio there were tornadoes touching down near his area, and said he had heard some really bad winds in the last thirty.

Peeked out his back door, and his very tall pine tree is in the neighbor's yard at this time.

His wife is 30 miles north taking care of her critically ill mother, in a supposedly very storm secure home.

His back yard is also full of lawn furniture and plastic garbage cans that blew in from other places in the neighborhood.

He's laughing about it, because that's all you really can do...you know?

Other than cry

Maybe the snake saw the cables and figured it was a family gathering :)

Miles O'brien lost one hat this morning live on TV. He finally gave up and decided to go bare headed.

There hasn't been any tape on my windows since then and I agree it doesn't appear that taping is a big thing anymore.

Where's Geraldo??

According to a poster on the earlier thread, Geraldo no longer works for FNC but went over to do a show of his own on the regular Fox network.

Actually the latest research is that plywood boarding up is basically almost as worthless as tape; only thing that truly works are purpose-built shutters.

your report of a lady doing a Dorothy was probably this ...

MELBOURNE BEACH - A home in Melbourne Beach collapsed, sending its second floor onto the highway blocking traffic on the 9100 block of State Road A1A - the major road along the barrier island.

Residents were home at the time, but no injuries were reported, according to Lt. Russ Cockriel of the Brevard County Sheriff' s Office.

My friend near there just sent me an IM telling me that two minutes ago.

Amazing that stuff still works in the middle of a storm, eh?

Can your friend login here? He doesn't have much longer before he can relax. Brevard county deputies are working in force along with Palm Bay PD. He should be OK.

My folks said they spent the early morning hours hunkered down in a closet with the dog. They were quick to say that they would NEVER try to ride out a hurricane again, so I guess some good came of all this.

LOL! Sorry, glad to hear they are OK, and hate to chuckle, but I've been in that safe room (yes, with dogs and cats) and I won't be again. I think I mentioned a couple of pages ago that they would be in the closet, and they wouldn't want to repeat the experience. Tell them they can pick up their new Florida Cracker badges at the tax collector's office. ;-)

In other news, a bit of my porch roof peeled up and is clunking around up there in the gusts. I'm astonished the whole thing didn't go. It's not really part of the house roof, and isn't that strong.

Anybody any recent reports from areas near Miami international airport?

Does anyone know if Rush stayed in Palm Beach for this?

Guess we'll know in a couple of hours. He said recently that he had never experienced a hurricane-always evacuates-but the next one he might stick around for unless he is mandatorily evacuated.
