Hope all is well there.
Hope all is well in Longboat Key.

You would be surprised how long the tarps keep the roofs from leaking. Most of Orlando was covered in tarps last year after the hurricanes. I waited until May before I finally got my new roof.
My parents in Destin rushed to tarp their roof as soon as Ivan ended last summer. Their roof is steeply pitched and my father rigged this elaborate pulley device to get their tarp in place (very ingenious fellow my dad). Had a heck of a time and put himself in much jeapordy. Bless his heart, he worked so hard on it all day long. The next morning the Fema people came into their neighborhood and did all the neighbors' roofs in a few hours. Be careful though. The fellow across the street from my parents had a tarp put on their roof and it turned out that they really didn't have enough damage to warrant a new roof. His insurance company wouldn't pay, but he had to buy a new roof anyway since all the nails from putting the tarp on caused so much damage.

Catastrophic planning failures possible. Mayor cries on TV. Whitey blamed. Federal Gummit blamed. Bush blamed. Race pimps go on TV and demand mo' money. Commissions formed and told by liberal press what results to find. Liberal press repeat urban legends as fact. Fingers pointed. Welfare queens take free federal credit cards to Wal Marts. Federal Deficit expanded to catastrophic levels. |
She won't leave her 3 cats.
Will not listen to any temporary lodging advice.
firring strips.
Can you give me any particulars about how to order them? length, width, thickness.
And I assume then nails and a hammer would be needed.
10 penny nails? or what?
Firring strips are a standard item at Lowes or Home Depot. They'll know what you mean and can recommend nails to use with them.
The lengths you need will depend on the size of the area the tarp is covering. they'll come in 8' or longer lengths
Thanks for adding this bit of info. I'll ask Home Depot about the firring strips and the nails/hammer.
Just... Damn!
Galveston. ;^P
She should be able to find lodging that accepts animals. She would need to contact the Red Cross to apply.
Here is an article about the RC extending hotel stays for Katina victims:

Well, I guess you don't have much to worry about with this thing.
Anything on Deerfield Beach, I have an Aunt in Century Village.
Actually if she is going to go anywhere, I'm going to bring her here...not to some place where she doesn't know anyone and will quickly decompensate.
We have a great retirement home a few blocks away, and she can live with us till they have a place ready for her.
My old cat just died so the cats can stay here. We have a big back yard.
Trouble is, I doubt she will budge. But I will try.
Time for dinner.
Be back.
